My cat is 9 years old & is licking her lips & also sticking her tongue out every time she meows.
When she eats her dry prescription food Hills z/d she licks her lips & seems to have a small problem swallowing it.
I brought her to the vet & he thinks it may be acid reflux and put her on Pepcid Ac 5mg twice a day for two weeks, then put her on zantac for two weeks when the Pepcid didn't seem to work. She is still doing the same & forgot to mention she shakes her head also. Vet checked her ears & saw a very small wax or gook way down deep in ear canal & gave me ear meds to give for 10 days. She doesn't shake her head as much but still does sometimes. She had her two front bottom teeth extracted back in March 2015 & I'm thinking when tube was inserted they did something to her trachea. This was done by a different vet which now I wasn't confident in bringing her back to. This new vet said could be due to her teeth missing that she does the tongue thing. (I DON'T BUY THAT). My cat was diagnosed with asthma last year & I use a inhaler to medicate her and I think sometimes she may be swallowing the flovent which is a chemical irritant. I have to use the inhaler because oral meds have to many side effects long term.
