Yeah, when I recommended Greek yogurt, I meant as a treat, or "supplement". Not as primary food. Grizzly eats it as a treat sometimes cause he's crazy about it. Also egg yolks. They do great on the fur

Goat's milk and yogurt tend to be a bit pricy, but in Heraklion with so many farmers, I think @KitKat2015  will be able to  find some on a more reasonable price.

I have a friend who owns goats[emoji]128526[/emoji]!!! I was thinking about trying the milk but wasn't sure if it's good for the cat. When my mom was here she used to boil it before drinking. I'm not sure if this is personal preference or if it has something to do with killing germs.

The boiling is to kill off any bugs, but it kills all the good bacteria too. Raw is definitely best - I have friends with goats too, and they sell the raw milk for puppy/kitten rearing. Irritatingly, when I wanted some their goat's weren't producing, but if I had been able to get it I've have used it as is :)

My grandmother used to own goats and when I visited her during the summers (I was a little girl back then) we used to drink the milk just as it was. We never boiled it. Happy days...

Well, if she pulls through I'll definitely get her some but the new vet doesn't seem too optimistic either. He says she's severely dehydrated so once again she's hooked up to an IV.

He wants to do more X-rays, bloodwork and an ultrasound but says he has to sedate her first and won't be able to do it until she's rehydrated.

I don't understand how she could be perfectly fine 2 months ago and now she's near death. Breaks my heart!

@KitKat2015  In my opinion, maybe she had something going wrong but didn't demonstrate it until the time came, which is when she got worse.. Put the moving on top of it, adding stress to encounter new environment, new conditions etc... It happens.. Animals don't show right from the start that something is off.. They tend to keep it to themselves, cause nature taught them that way, so to avoid becoming prey.

At least the new vet is determined to look into it - which I am happy to hear. Be patient, think positive, help Miso get rehydrated and stay focused. Don't get stressed, don't get worried. Well, of course you'll be worried - you're not a robot! But what I mean is, don't let worry and stress take the best of you, which is exactly what you must give to Miso right now. Be strong and focused. Everything will fall into place

If I hadn't taken her to the vet prior to traveling, I could totally understand that theory. But we did physicals, blood and urine work before leaving the states. Now, if the doctors missed something...that's another story. But I remember them telling me that you couldn't tell she was 14 years old from her physical exam. She was healthy. That's why I'm having such a difficult time with it all.

So, if you did blood work, there must something to compare the recent blood results, right?

Please don't worry
Everything will be fine! We are all here for you and Miso seems to have a good basis to start with. If she was in such a good shape not long ago, she might be able to recover from this sooner than you expect! Just hang in there. Help her get rehydrated so that the vet can sedate her and perform the tests. The sooner, the better!

Wonder why he needs to sedate her to do xrrays, bloodwork and ultrasounds?  Many cats, especially when they are very sick, don't need sedation for these things.  However, that being said, in certain countries they won't attempt them without sedation, no matter what, so it just may be the case over there.  I think either Ireland or Scotland is that way too.

Did you talk to him about any of the medicines mentioned WAY above that the other H/L cat was on, including giving sub-q fluids at home?  I'm really not surprised she's dehydrated, because just hand feeding her is not really going to get that much liquid into her, and I don't imagine she's drinking much.  At least when syringe feeding, you thin the canned food down with water to get it into the syringe, so they get more water, but even then many people still do sub-qs for additional hydration.   How about special food?  Do they have it there at the Vet's office?

How long is she going to be at the clinic on an IV?  At least 24 hours?   H/L IS a scary "disease" and a difficult/timely one to overcome. This is probably why the Vet wasn't too optimistic.  He doesn't want to give you false home.  But I've seen some cats pull thru will numbers worse than Miso's.  And I've seen some who didn't make it.  But often it does depend on what caused it in the first place and the overall health of the cal in general.    I'm glad you are able to adjust your work schedule to give her afternoon feedings.

I talked to the vet about sedation yesterday and we're going to try doing the tests without it first. I told him I'd rather not tax her liver any more than necessary at this point...he agreed to try.

She spent the night on the IV and when I spoke to him last he said she was looking stronger. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying for good news today.

I also spoke to her vet in the U.S. and she sent me her test results as well as some suggestions for treatment which I plan on taking to the doctor today. I'll post them here also later; maybe they can be of use to someone.

Thank you all for taking the time, doing the research, and for all the support! I'll keep you posted on Miso's condition.

Sedation is a usual practice, at least here in Greece. Vets just want to be safe than sorry.. If Grizzly isn't sedated, he might slash the vet.. He hates vet visits.. Literally HATES them..

With sedation the animals stay perfectly still, which is totally useful for Xrays. And they also avoid getting stressed during the tests.. I am for sedation.

But I cannot disagree with @KitKat2015  .. Miso is quite weak to "load" her system with sedation. So, I hope the vet manages to do the tests successfully, without it.

The fact that your previous doctor will send you Miso's previous results along with recommended treatment is the best news!

You and Miso have all of us backing you up, as well as 2 vets that clearly care to fight whatever is been torturing Miso..

Everything will be fine!

Oh no...
Was she that bad? It seems it got to the point where nothing could be done apparently..

I am so so so sorry for your loss.. I can't put in words.. It is perfectly undestandable the fact that you are in a strange place and so much has changed in such a short period.. I know you must feel alone, but you're not alone.. If you want to talk to someone, I'm here. We can talk on the phone if you like. Sorry I don't live closer, or else I'd be there!

You must not feel like a bad parent.. I told you before.. Animals DO NOT let us know something is wrong, right away! They tend to keep it to themselves. You couldn't have known the difference unless it was obvious. And it became obvious, sadly, when it was too late.. This is not your fault..

Oh, and I must remind you that Maine Coons' life expectancy is no more than 15 years if they are in good health.. Miso was 14 years old. I just read it on your 1st post - I had forgotten all about her age.. She had a full cycle if you think about it! You shouldn't blame yourself, @KitKat2015
