I had a similar thought to H hteft , after thinking about it for awhile. I agree that it's probably from the infection. In fact the fluid all over his body is probably from the abscess. And he does not appear to be responding well to the amoxicillin, so changing to clavamox is a good idea. A steroid might help too. You can inquire at the vet.

How is Oliver this morning?

Hoping for a good update on Oliver. I am glad he is still wanting his milk and his breathing is better, he's holding his own. I do hope you can get him to a Vet.

@catwoman707

She was using a private vet when he got sick this time. They are closed until Tuesday, and she cannot afford the emergency vet, so I suggested the nearby Banfield. Perhaps she can request clavamox there without paying emergency fees.
Oh okay, good to know.

Love to hear how he is doing today, and I do believe he should be given a new/better antibiotic at this point.

He is still alive. Sorry I have been sleeping with him between feedings. His breathing has it good times and hard times but he is great right now. Throughout all this he has been alert and hungry which seems like a good sign to me. All the vet offices are closed today but my nurse friend offered me a nebulizer kit to give him for him breathing. Im about to go pick it up

I'm so glad he is still with us!

Be very careful with nebulizing him. Albuterol is very strong, and I doubt he needs more than 1-2 TINY puffs. In fact, let's ask catwoman707 catwoman707 about using this.

How is the lump in his ear today? And how is the swelling in his legs?

And are you seeing a different vet tomorrow?

I'm hoping Oliver can pull through this after all!

He's still adorable!

My kittens enjoy TV too!

Glad he enjoyed the ear cleaning. That ear cyst will probably need draining, if that's what it is.

What are your plans for the nebulizer?

I'm concerned about you seeing the same vet tomorrow.

Okay. Oliver definitely needs to see someone though tomorrow, and get a new antibiotic.

Were you wanting to nebulize him with albuterol?

I have been really watching this thread, afraid to disturb the flow, rooting my heart out for little Oliver......You are getting great advice here.

I too have heard a lot of horror stories about Banfield.

It does sound as if Oliver needs to see a Vet on Tuesday; preferably not the same one you have been seeing, or anyone else at the same practice.

Is there a local humane society which you could contact. They may be able to direct you to a lower priced Vet, or give you ideas.

I know there is a section in each Petsmart for adoption. They are probably not using Banfield as their Vet.

This is just an idea. Or is there a Vet school nearby? They usually have clinics~~ I have found them to be expensive though, but maybe they could refer you because you are trying to save a life.

I admire both you and your husband ( after he came around) for trying so hard with this little one...Bless you..

we need updates,

((hugs)))

Speaking from my own personal experience with albuterol, I would not use it on a tiny kitten..that is strong stuff..

My heart races and I start shaking when I have to use it...

Exactly! My daughter has asthma and albuterol works, but it is much too strong for a tiny kitten. It does cause a racing heart and shakiness.

I would hold off for now.

I sure don't think you need to go to the old vet, but he must be seen tomorrow.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but I think today his sickness has really started to break. He is happily breathing through his NOSE!!!! He hasn't done that in days. And his breathing isn't labored anymore. It is so nice to see him sleeping so soundly :)

I am so incredibly glad to hear this! Thank goodness for small victories!

Now, we just need to see his abscess healed, and find out what's going on with the cyst in his ear and the fluid in his legs.

How is the site of the abscess doing?
