Last night when I got home from work, my roommate had a kitten that has been living in our neighborhood living in our enclosed porch. She looks to be about 10-12 weeks old in my opinion. She is very affectionate and is eating pretty well (likes wet food more than dry lol). She has also used the litter box with no problem. My concerns are #1 her belly looks a little swollen, which I am assuming is worms since she probably has never been to a vet to be de-wormed. I felt around her belly and no signs of her being in pain.Concerned #2 I noticed while petting her that when she lays down and gets comfortable she seems to have her mouth open. I don't know if she is breathing from her mouth or just keeping it open, but it's only when she is resting/laying down. She is very friendly and loveable but she seems to b a little lazy. She lays down a lot and I have yet to see her be playful, other than when she chased a bug that ran across the floor. I was just curious if I should be extremely concerned or if just setting up an appt for sometime this week is ok. If she needs to go to an emergency room that's also something I want to know. I got my roommate to agree that he HAS TO take her in to be spayed, de-wormed, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and early mites just because that's the right thing to do and because my cat lives there and I don't want her to catch anything. Any advice or things I should be super concerned about

It sounds like she may have had a rough time before your roommate found her.  Most certainly she has worms and the mouth thing could be the beginning of an upper respiratory infection.   She might just be tired - or sleeping as a way to avoid all the new changes in her life.  Cats need lots of time to adjust, so let her take it easy.  You are always wise to keep newcomers from contact with resident cats until the newcomer has been vet checked.

The vet will deworm and give her an exam with antibiotics if she needs them.  If you can get her an appointment in the next week or so, things can move along.  Remember when introducing her to your cat to take it slowly - they each need to feel comfortable and secure.

We love pictures - so keep us posted.  Thanks for helping her.

Hi there! do you have pictures of the kitten?

IMO The best thing to do is take her for a vet consultation as soon as possible... flea bath and deworm, then start vaccination program...

Good luck with everything.

I'm going to snap a picture of her now so u all can see her. She really is sweet :-) I might take her from the roommate if he doesn't do what he is supposed to do asap. My boyfriend will probably kill me cuz we already have a cat but he knows I'm not capable of just sitting by watching this poor baby not feeling good without doing something about it. Lol I'm the softie that will take any sick animal to the Dr haha. I'm not sure how to post a pic but I will try.

Those photos aren't showing up. Is it your phone not working or TCS mobile site? Can you upload to another site alright?

I think it's the site. I haven't had problems sending or uploading anywhere else so not sure what the problem is:(

Were you ever able to get the kitten to the vet? How is she doing now? I hope your BF does not get too upset if you step in and take over. This poor little girl needs someone to watch over her.

About photos - I also have been unable to post images from my phone recently so it isn't just you.

It's good to know its not just me lol. I haven't taken YET because he claims he has an appt scheduled for her on Monday, but if he doesn't take her to that appt I will take over from there. I think my brains is already preparing himself for that possibility lol. I have been complaining about the roommate not doing what he should when he should for the past two days n he knows I won't just stand idly by while she suffers. I will continue to try and post the pics but if I can't and anyone would like to see them just send me your email and I will send them to you

Do you use photobucket or one like it? Whenever I have an issue posting pics, I go through there.

Very lucky little kitten!

She seems much happier btw lol. She is lounging in the dining room right now. Gave her a bath earlier, she was not to happy about it but she is nice and clean and soft now and she seems much more comfortable now :-)
