We have a female cat six to seven years old.  Just tonight she is not able to stand up.  She falls over.  She appears to be breathing okay and alert.  Her right eye has evidence of drainage but isn't draining right now. She will meow but doesn't seem to be in pain.  We are able to hold her and console her for a little while. She is sitting up but seems to always be moving her paws.  She doesn't seem to have a temperature.  She will focus and is alert.  She has trouble standing on all fours.  We don't know what to do for her.  Any suggestions or guidance is appreciated.

I would like to add some things to my original post.  Puffy is a wild cat that we are able to catch pretty easily whenever we want to.  She stays near here all the time.  We are wondering if she is dizzy.  The backs of her ears do not have very much fur on them.  They appear to be worn down to skin but not bleeding or cracked or look like they are hurting her at all.  Thank you.

ER Vet is what I would suggest.  Could be a blood clot or an inner ear infection.  Whatever it is, a vet needs to address the situation quickly.

I am not one to race to the vet for everything, but she needs a vet, ASAP.

That is a very serious symptom that can be life threatening and no way to assume she is okay because she is alert, cats are masters at disguising illness and injury.

For her to not be able to stand on all fours is a very big deal.

I second the votes for the ER Vet!! I hope you have done so..

Please let us know how your kitty made out...

Not being able to stand is very alarming, no matter what the age is

((hugs))

I agree with the others. This cat needs a vet ASAP. Not being able to stand is a huge deal. It happened to one of my cats once - it turned out to be a massive stroke. I'm not trying to scare you, just point out how serious this can be.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.  I did take Puffy to our vet this morning.  She has a bacterial infection.  Doctor gave her IV fluids, long acting antibiotic shot, steroid shot, and potassium pills to take at home.  Also some special wet food.  When I got home with her we gave her some of the food and she ate very well  We also got her to drink some water and she went to the bathroom in the litter box.  She is still very unstable but doctor thinks within a 2 - 3 days we should see improvement.  We are hoping for the best.  Thanks again.

WOW!  So very glad you took her in and got her started on the road to recovery.
