My kitten was neutered today. He was sent home without a cone for his head. Is this ok? He is licking the area. I keep attempting to distract him.

We have had 7 kitties fixed within the past 4 yrs and never had any of them come home with a cone.  We took them in the morning to the mobile PetFix van area and picked them up a few hours later.  I can honestly tell you that we never had a problem with any of them..male or female.  I would just keep a close eye on everything, he should be fine.

I've never been sent home with a cone for any of my kitties' spays or neuters.  Just keep an eye on the incision sites and make sure they don't bleed.  I do remember when we had our male kitty neutered he also licked himself a lot when he came home.  I think he was trying to get the not-me smell off his body.  He had no complications and healed just fine.

Exactly, they are going to clean it to get that smell off of them, it's chewing and tearing in to the incision that is a problem, but males heal fine with no cone.

Just watch to make sure it doesn't start turning red, or that the glue opens up. He should be OK as long as he doesn't become too obsessed with licking it! Besides wanting to clean it and get rid of the smells on him, he will also probably itch a little, since he was shaved. No big deal usually :)
