So first it started with him getting sick 1 every month and a half. I have been to the vet 3 times, ran blood work and all that comes out good. No one knows why the cat is sick. Strange thing is he will get sent home with fluids and in a day or 2 he is back to normal. Now he is sick again, this time i didint take him to the vet since I am so sick of them telling me they don't know whats wrong and send him home with just fluids. So he stood home and the next day was fine. I thought everything was fine but then about 3 days later he was sick again, but then he gets better again all by him self. This has been the 3rd time. Does anyone have any better ideas of what it may be?

His symptoms are, drunken gait, 3rd eyelid out, attention seeking, sleeping more and when I rub his face by his ears he rubs his head more into my hands and when my finger get closer to his ear he puts his head down and over as if he wanted me to scratch him in it. I also told the doctor about it but the tell me it has nothing to do. I feel it does as it only happens when he is sick like this.

How old is your cat?

Does he have any other illnesses that are diagnosed?

Has your vet said what this isn't? In other words, what has been ruled out?

He 2 years old and he is a male cat. The said that the could not find any infection and that he did not have fiv since the tested. No urinary tract issues. The last thing the told ne was to get a mri done since the could not find what was wrong. No i have not done a mri yet as it is 2000+ dollars, which i dont have and is going to take me a while to save up

When you say "sick", as in your post's title, do you mean, vomiting? You never specifically mention it.

In any case, regarding your last paragraph above, did the vet check your cat out for an ear infection?

Is he an indoor cat or an outdoor cat? If outdoor, could be something he is regularly ingested outdoors...

Indoor and already try that route. Nothing around he could have eaten. No plants, no flowers, no chemicals. Only thing he could have eaten is maybe a plastic wrap if he would have went into the garbage to get it. I don't think that what it is. The did a test to check is liver to see if it was a poison and it came back good.

Is he constipated? What food do you feed? An allergy to an ingredient in the food?

I would find another vet.

Wish I could give you a good answer. It must be stressful for you.

It's possible that he has an inner ear infection DEEP in the ear canal, which is harder to diagnose.  This could account for the "drunken gait", although I would think he would be pawing at his ear if this were the case.

Otherwise, if his bloodwork cme back normal, I don't know what to think.  Sometimes a drunken gait is caused by low potassium or magnesium, but that would definitely show up in bloodwork.

Mosimom, No he is not. He is pooping fine and urination is good as well. He on a wet food diet because he has had a urinary blockage before. I was told to keep him on wet food since he seems to be not consuming enough water.

Mrsgreenjeans. Yes it very strange that nothing would show up in blood work. This is why i believe the told me to get a mri done. I was thinking it could be that but if that is the case then should his white blood cell count be up since it is trying to fight a infection. Also would he be getting better then sick again all on his own if he did have a infection o.o?

What brand of food are you feeding him?  Are you rotating flavors/varieties?

I feed him friskies. I change the flavors but not the brand. I don't think it his food as he never had a issue before and he been on it for over a year.

Also there is another cat in the house so if the food would have been the issue she probably would be sick as well.

I think we're all throwing darts at this.  Is it possible you could tell us what has been ruled out?  If we see something missing from the list maybe we could add something in ?

Tested for toxoplasmosis? Pancreatitis?

Fever?

StephenQ is absolutely right about this.  We're all just guessing as to what it might be.  Have you taken him to the Vet DURING one of these episodes?  I think that's your best bet.  If he's doing the drunken gait, has his third eyelid otu, etc, during the Vet visit, I think they might be more able to make a diagnosis.  Perhaps visiting a Feline Only Vet might help too.

Companies can change their formulas and that doesn't always sit well with kitties.  Personally, I went through this exact same thing (different food) with my kitty many, many years ago. By process of elimination, we discovered that she would throw up when we fed her any fish flavored food.  Eliminated all the fish varieties, and the vomiting went completely away.  I would suggest that for the time being, you stick to pure meat varieties with no fish or tuna.  It's very common for kitties to not be able to tolerate the fish varieties of food.  Stick with turkey, chicken, and liver blends and see if that doesn't clear up the problem
