Hi cat people,

I already have an appointment booked with my vet, but I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with this before. I was out of town for 5 week, left my cat with a sitter at home. When I came home I noticed she had an enlarged belly. I thought maybe the sitter had overfed her. She is spayed and gets monthly flea ampules so I thought worms were unlikely. When her stomach didn't go down after a week of feeding her with her regular portions of food I took her to the vet. The vet felt her stomach and said it didn't seem like anything was wrong. She has no other symptoms, is perfectly happy and active, and didn't seem bothered at all when he squeezed her belly. However, I know her slender build and a large belly is NOT normal. He gave a worming vaccine and said to wait 2 weeks. 2 weeks later and it's still large. It does seem smaller every-once in a while but maybe I'm imagining it. Overall it's the same. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Did your vet weight your cat and compare it to the last weighing?

Some animal sitters are known to overfeed so this could be the cause and given that it happened precisely when you are away makes it seem likely.

I would contact your sitter and ask exactly how much did they feed and how often?
