Today, I got the news that our new cat has FeLV. I cried the whole way home of course. We have another cat and we have been trying to get them to be introduced to one another but now we are stopping that. My question is, is there anyway for someone to own a FeLV + and a FeLV - cat and still allow both cats to have a good life??

Absolutely!

A few questions first.

Is this an adult cat you acquired? Was the test the snap test?

Are there any symptoms, or how did you come about getting her tested?

How old is she?

How was cat tested? If it is a snap test those can be inacurate. Did vet suggest a retest in 3 months? There is a lab in New Jersey that does a second test. If both are positive then your cat would have a true diagnosis of FELV.

Meredith is 5 months old. We found her at a skatepark and she is tiny. I took her to the vet today and the test is part of the kitten package. it was the small test, she showed me the cartridge and where it was positive and she said we can retest her in a month.

Yes they can, but it is not a standard vaccine, it's for felv protection, so be sure they know it's this one you want.

She should be retested yes, definitely. I am concerned that she tested positive at her young age, which, if it's confirmed she was born to a mom who is positive, and the outcome is not in her favor :(

Worrying is not going to change anything at all, and will only make yourself miserable, and stress the cats out as well, I know it's very sad, terribly, but get your cat a vaccine and take it as it comes, okay?

Hugs.

Thank you. We are going to retest in a month. She also has some worms so we r battling that as well. We found her at a skatepark so idk anything about her mom or where she came from. She is also very tiny so we r trying to fatten her up a bit too. Im gunna try not to stress too much. Thank you :)
