my lot are all rescues apart from the 2 we kept and it is really nice to know there health from day 1 as well as the knowing they have always been looked after  lol plus we have a strong trust with the kittens it makes giving worm pills and any other medications so much easier but saying that there is nothing like the sense of achievement  that you get from a rescue cat that don't trust no one to start with and turning them into big idots that just want cuddles or just to nick my pillow at night for my big black cat she is now 13 and a proper suck but she was wild when we first adopted her when she was just 3 years old omg she drew blood when she first came she was evil lol

Ruby must have been just a stray who had a home before arriving at the shelter, as she took no time at all becoming a love bug once I adopted her.  I do, however, wish someone had gotten her used to having her nail trimmed.  It's been almost 2 years since I've had her, and it's still a task to get even one clipped.

try a small animal grinding stone. i found the one i have now at the pound store  i have one for my lot i use it on all our pets cats dog and parrot they seem to tolerate it more than clipping but think it only takes one person to go too short and they never forget.

That's an idea.  I'll have to see what I can find.  ( I assume a pound store is the same as a dollar store)

well just an update

just weighed kittens again all seem to be doing really well so far

first born (black and white) is now 175g

second born (pure black) is now 166g

third born (pure black) is now 185g

and last born (black and white) is now 166g

tried to sex them and i think the two smaller weights are little girls and the larger weights are little boys but i will know for sure as they get a little bigger as i find it very hard to sex them when they are so tiny they look so similar.

noticed this time mum is still spotting a little blood every now and then but this is becoming more watery now i don't think i should be to concerned but when should i worry about this did not notice it last time.as well as breathing a little heaver than normal at times mainly when she is feeding or is feeling a little stressed like when i run the hoover round (she still hates the hoover but think its important to do just in case of fleas not that i have seen any)

also i have managed to get mum to drink about 300mls of KMR over the last 2 days (last time would not touch it so thinking she knows she needs it ) as well as a 8 pouch of kitten food a day habit and half a bowl of kitten dry food a day so im happy she is getting enough to keep her going as i am free feeding her still and will probably continue until kittens stop feeding from her.

vet appointments are booked for a 3 week check where they will flea and worm all of them and for the 7th october for both her and the 2 kittens from the previous litter to be spayed/neutered the vet listened to me and are happy to do it then mum may cost me a little more but i don't mind that i just don't wish for her to have yet another littler (i feel this litter has taken more out of her than the last )

planing on taking more photos tomorrow so will upload when i do

thank you so much to all of your input so far it is really reassuring to have all you lot on hand with information you are all fantastic caring people whom really look after the cats in there care .

p.s i may be taking in  2 more little girls soon from a family near me who just want them gone as son is apparently allergic to them both are not neutered and both under a yr old who have already had kittens i just hope i can get to them before they get pregnant again fingers crossed. so i can get them spayed and proper vet checks done before hopefully re-homing them. as i can not keep them all my Friends already call me the cat lady lol . we will be keeping Missy though if she stays after being spayed i really do hope she dose we have been through so much with her i just cant re home her

Very sweet! Everything sounds well on your end, and I like the fact you have plans made and appointments booked in advance! The weights are good too.

I don't suppose this family you are getting the kittens from could offer you a bit of money to take them since you will be assuming all costs?

When might you actually take on the kittens? It's very kind of you!

trying to find some names for these little guys? as i find it easier to identify them with names

so far thinking checkers and domino for the black and whites but completely at a nothing for the blacks

we already have 2 black cats who are Magic and Sooty as well as a Scrappy( a tabby and white male who lives up to his name) , sixpence(a British short-hair blue cream girl) and a Merlin(a black and white tuxedo Male)

as the last litter were magic themed so we had

Magic who is still Magic

Merlin who is still Merlin

Mystic Meg who is now just Meg and

Houdini who is now Sooty

we are in talks with the family about the 2 girls at the moment  unfortunately i don't think any money will be offered as they have 7 children

but saying that i was talking to a girl at work who told me that if its not my own cats the cats protection will issue vouchers for the spays so i may look into that if they defiantly end up with us.

i am not worried about mama cat (Missy) or her kittens from the last litter as i plan to keep these anyway so i don't mind laying out for them   but if i can get a little help with the other 2 i will if not i will just do it anyways as they have already had litters extremely young anyway

Getting help where you can with the new ones would be awesome. No shame in that, and you're giving them a better future with the spays.

You are a good soul :).

well we have a long line of cats we have helped  in the past and continue to do so i am a bit of a soft touch like that lol

it all started with sooty are big black girl who is now 13 we adopted her from a rescue center when she was 3 but she was completely wild when she first came the only way you could handle her was in a towel or you would have no skin left she was evil but now she is the most loyal cat you could wish for and i would never part with her.

from then we had a little black and white long haired kitten dumped at our front door on Christmas eve of all nights which we took in unfortunately we could not save him we tried so hard for over 18 months but every few weeks he would just go down hill again and end up at the vets on drips to help build him back up until we found out it was cat leukemia so choose to do the nicest thing so he didn't have to struggle any more it was heartbreaking. then there was a little ginger tom who was my Friends cat but her little girl came down with a strong reaction to him so he came to us for a while we managed to get a fantastic home for him where he is still happy to this day as he did not get on at all with sooty and it was not fair on her. then there was a gorgeous grey and white tom stray who had quite a bad eye infection which we managed to capture to get him to the vets to clear his eye up and get him neutered  but he was a stray and was not happy being kept indoors but did live in our shed for quite a few years till he diapered one day. then Scrappy he came to us as a tiny kitten he was no older than 3 weeks old and needed round the clock feeding we still have him to this day as we worked so hard with him i just could not let him go then i friend of mine begged me to take on 3 British short haired cats from a so called breeder who was leaving them in a really bad state  when they came to me they all had chlamydia which to be honest was better than the other options it could have been the pure blue on was only 3-4 month old but all there eyes were omg after a dose of antibiotics and being spayed/neutered the blue who name is now sassy and still only kitten sized is now re homed with a lovely old couple down the road and Sid the silver spotted is now re homed with my mother in law as she just fell in love with him and the blue cream sixpence my husband fell in love with so she is still here even though she still suffers from blocked tear ducts so her eyes weep quite a lot we did talk to the vets about having he operated on but he told us with the damage already in her eyes it would only last a few weeks before it was the same again so didn't feel the need to get it done so now its just a daily eye cleaning routine.then there is smudge he had a good life before coming to us he was my nans cat who was 14 when she lost her battle with cancer and i refused for him to be put into a shelter as he was just to old for that so he spent the rest of his days with us unfortunately at 19 1/2 he got a tumor on his kidney and due to his age the vet would not operate they did however try him on steriods but looking back now i wish i never did that as he lost all his weight and became so very week it was horrible so we did the kindest thing we could and then scattered his ashes on nans grave so they could be together again , we also have about 6-7 strays that visit the garden to be fed morning and night and then of course Missy.

as you see im a big sucker for animals i just cant see one ill or injured (p s this is just the cats we wont go into dogs and birds we will be here all day)

plus i feel we bring home 2 full time wages we don't go out much so why not help out these poor things it what i enjoy doing in my spare time and don't intend to change  even at work i am care ring for people with mental illness i think that's why i am here to help where i can and i love doing it
