still not desided on names as yet wait to find out there personallies getting slightly worried again mum has started to get a really watery right eye so will probably be bringing the vet appointment forward should i be worried about the kittens i cant see any eye problems with the kittens and they are doing well in mums care but if this turns out to be some sort of infection will it be best to seperate them temporary so the kittens wont get it unsure what to do

No I don"t think you'd want to separate them from mom.  The vet will let you know - be sure to ask.

i wouldn't want to seperate them unless nessasary as she is doing a fab job all kittens are now either touching 300g or over

I see no need to separate them right now. It may be a cut or debris in her eye. I would suggest applying a warm compress over that eye for relief. Vet will probably give you opthalmic drops with an antibiotic or steroid in them to treat the eye.

When is she seeing the vet?

Other members have been able to massage the limbs into place.  It takes time but can be corrected.  Catwoman will be able to give instructions

well we have names now !!

we have Hope and Faith the two with swimmers leg

at the moment we know Hope (black and white female) is the worse of the 2 she has hips knees and ankles out of place and we have been told she could have a permanent disability in her rear legs as they are so bad but we are going to try if she cannot mobilize herself after bracing and heat pads we may have to lose her hence the name hope but if she can get around and be a normal cat then i will do all i can for her i don't care about a funny walk or having to brace her legs to give her a full and happy life. whereas Faith,s (black female) is not as bad it is just her ankles that are affected and she dose try to lift her bottom where Hope dose not. and the vet feels she may grow out of it on her own where it is quite mild so fingers crossed hence the name Faith.

unfortunately the vet we see yesterday has never seen this in kittens but has only read about it in training so he would like us to see the other vet next week who has dealt with this before and knows what to do and she can show us how to apply the heat pads and how to brace up Hope's legs.

the two boys now named Spanner (black) and Socket (black and white) are both doing really well and doing what they should .

Plus mums eye already looks better to what it was so that's healing nicely.

just fingers and toes crossed for Hope that she can mobilize to some level that she can lead a normal happy life xxx

i will try and get some photos of both Hope and Faith's legs later so you can see what they are like.

P.S i would love to know how to massage there legs if anyone knows how to do it as i feel it would not hurt starting that asap i am willing to try anything for there mobility.

Hang in there as I have asked catwoman707 catwoman707 to advise you on this. You should not have to lose either kitten.

I love the names Hope and Faith for them! :)

The younger this manipulation is started the greater chance of a full recovery.

So now is the time :)

Faith's will need massaging between your fingertips for a few minutes, this is to work on her muscles relaxing them, then gently working them to where they are supposed to be, slightly bending them but not forcefully.

This is to ensure they do correct, but often times in mild cases such as hers, they correct all on their own with growth. I personally would work her legs/feet a few times a day, just to ensure, and you will start seeing the improvements soon too.

In Hope's case, she will need the same, but will need bracing as well.

This can be done with medical tape, to where she will be held in a standing on all fours position, then placing tape around her legs so that they are unable to separate, only the normal couple of inches from each other. Granted she does not walk yet, so her legs will be to one side, you don't want them behind her like if she were paralyzed, but without seeing how her legs lay now I can;t tell much.

Can you post pics of hers?

How old?

@catwoman707

Born 16 days ago.
Thanks.

So yeah, even more critical to get this started now. The first 2 weeks is the best ideally, but if started now they are still flexible enough they will be easily manipulated.

I would not wait another day though, this is your best chance.

This is due to how fast they are growing and developing now, and each week their bones and muscles are strengthening and becoming less pliable.

This is Faith she has got a splayed look but will lift her bottom up to move

This is Hope i don't feel this photo shows the full splaying but neither of them wanted to play ball as Hope's back end is almost looks flat to the ground.

thank you catwoman707

i will start massaging both of them tonight and see how it goes i tried to use micro pore tape on Hope's legs earlier from a you tube video and she managed to wriggle out of it every time however tight i put it

i wrapped both leg and ankle with a cuff of micro pore and taped it there then used a bit to brace it so the legs where in standing position as it showed in the video is this correct as she managed to get it off 4 times i think she has strong little legs just in the wrong position as well as when i was doing this noticed one leg is a lot longer than the other is this normal ??

also was thinking we had a dog with blown cruciate ligaments which we used hydro therapy which helped a great deal would it help with the kittens ?? cause i am sure i could try this in the bath even starting in a small bowl to get them used to it  what do you think ??

Thank you again everyone on here i don't know what i would do without your input  as i phoned a few other vets in the area to see if any of them have delt with this sort of thing before and none of them have ever seen it is it that rare of a thing ?? i will have to wait till next week to see the other vet at our practice but thank you so much .

What happens when you hold Hope up in the air? What does she do with her legs? What about lifting her by her scruff?

Hydro therapy, I don't know, just because her muscles are used to going this way for now, but splinting them how you want them to go will show her muscles the right way only.

It's the "only" part that makes it work, rather than the way she wants them to go.

Would you believe with all of my experience I have no idea if you put a 2 week old kitten in a tub of water if it will sort of try to swim or not? haha

I know it's natural, but not sure at what age. If she did try to swim moving her hind legs too, this is perfect, then I would bind her thighs some and her legs also, when I say bind I mean restrict the movements connecting them together. If you were to do this to a normal legged kitten it would not alter how it walks, do you see what I mean?

So if she will try to swim, that's our answer. She will be strengthening her muscles while bound in the correct position.

so what you are saying is brace her legs and try the water.
it could be a plan didnt think of bracing them while in the water cause if she swims normally ot would het them used to working right without putting to much presure on them sounds a plan.
i tired massaging the both of them last night and they both screamed lol im just about to start again as for the bracing she has it off again looked in to getting some finger braces last night and managed to find a pack that contains both adult and child sizes so when they arive will give it a go got to be better if she cant get them off otherwise we will be reapplying every 5 mins so will let you know how that works.
