I'm about to move my cat Herbie into what will be a 4 cat household. The other three cats are sisters and eat the same dry food (pellets). My cat eats wet food because he only has two teeth (lower canines) but he has been known to eat dry food at other cat's houses when he thinks I'm not watching. I'm assuming he swallows the dry food whole.

How great of a choking risk is this for my cat? And will he develop digestive problems swallowing dry food whole?

I'm going to attempt to keep Herbie's wet food separate and feed him in a different room but I don't know how I'm going to keep him away from the dry food the sits out for the other cats. Any feeding advice for this situation?

Hi

Even cats with teeth often swallow kibble whole.  I wouldn't use really large kibble (like royal canin) but small kibble should be just fine.  Lots of teethless cats eat dry food.

Wow really? That's great to hear... I wonder why none of my previous vets have ever mentioned that as an option....

I'll have to do some more digging on this site for other people and their teethless-cat experiences.

Thanks!
