My cat has been breathing different, he is 1 year old, a ragdoll, its been very hot where we live and more in our house, our cat is a indoor cat, he has been panting, breathing with his mouth open is scaring me, he has also been breathing fast, his belly is moving, today we had to lock him in the bathroom cause we had to clean the whole house and hes scared of the vaccum, we gave him cold water and put a fan in the bathroom, he kept meowing, so i instead went and kept him company, he started meowing still, he layed down and wanted to sleep, i saw that he was breathing quick, and his belly was moving but not his chest, i got worried and my mom said that he was fine, i was not convinced, i did some research and saw that cats pant when they are too hot,and they keep cool, i get scared evertime i see him pant or breath fast, i feel like taking him to the vet[emoji]128531[/emoji]

This does sound worrying. You're absolutely right that he needs to see a vet. Abdominal breathing is NOT normal, and can be an indication of serious medical issues. Your cat needs to see a vet ASAP.

I am not an Advisor, but I do not feel it is normal for cats to pant. I would be very concerned about that. I do know that dogs Pant, not cats.

How hot is it in your house? I have never heard of an indoor cat or any cat panting. Sounds like there is something bad going on.

Could you perhaps wrap him in a wet towel.

I honestly think you should take him to the Vet... and as soon as possible.

I think it is an emergency.

Please try to convince your mom or someone to take your baby to the Vet. I mean NOW!

I do not want to scare you...you seem like a very caring person. This cat means a lot to you..

Please keep us updated

Panting is not normal. All over the internet it says it is an emergency.

My cat was not panting, but had rapid breathing. I took her to the vet and X-ray showed inflammation in one lower lung. Turned out we cannot fry bacon due to the preservatives floating in air aggravate her lungs. She was put on antibiotics and all turned out fine.

A cat can still get a respirtory infection during hot weather and with the humidity. It can turn into pnemonia as well! It could be a heart problem too.

You really need to call the vet and tell them so they can advise you.
