My 14 year old Ragdoll hasn't eaten in 3 days nor has she pooped. She is lethargic. I have tried hand feeding her boiled chicken and rice and feeding water by syringe. No luck. I am afraid I am going to lose her. I am taking her to the vet in the morning. Any suggestions in the meantime?

I am saying a prayer that your kitty feels better soon!  I do not know about these things, but I know other members are more knowledgeable and will give some input.  Has this loss of appetite happened before?   What is your Ragdoll's name?

I am sorry for what you and your cat are going through. A drastic change in appetite is always a reason for a visit to the vet. It can be the first sign of a problem which sometime can be serious. You are doing the right thing to not delay the vet visit. I am sure your vet will do a blood panel and whatever else is necessary to try and determine what is wrong. I do hope it is nothing serious. Yes, I can pray too. I have been there and done that with cats and this type of situation can be so frustrating. Wishing you the best.

carolinafran carolinafran She is a beauty. I have never seen a Ragdoll cat. I have just learned my husband's cousin has two. I want to go visit them.

Please post back with a report from the vet. I pray there is an easy solution.

I pray she is okay too!  3 days is a long time for a cat to not eat, or even drink water. I'm sure they will at least give her fluids while they figure it out.   Keep us posted.

Thank you to all that replied and to those who were silent but said a prayer.

Mopsie was diagnosed with a respiratory infection which contributed to her not eating. The vet started her on liquid antibiotic and gave her some liquids under her skin which gave her a boost on her hydration. She was better within hours and continues to improve.

Next day after vet's visit we also found out she haad a bit of a bladder infection. The same antibiotic given to her for the respiratory infection was effective with the bladder infection so no additional meds were needed. She has been on the antibiotic for one week and she is close to her old self again...only a little week still (which could just be age...shows up when she jumps up on the bed to rest).

The only difficulty I an still having is getting her to eat well. She is eating again, but has always been a finicky eater. Usually only eats chicken, usually only paté types. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am so happy Mopsie is feeling better
and that the vet could identify what was troubling her.  Others will know more than I do about stimulating her appetite, but I just wanted to let you know I was so happy when I read this post.  Hello, Mopsie and continue to feel better every day!

I'm so happy to hear that she is doing much better!!  I have been through Angel having a UTI, & then cystitis twice,  (in 2012) so he finally had to be on a Rx urinary Rx food. (wet only).  After about a year of that, & all better, I wanted to find a healthier/ cleaner food that would still meet those needs, just to stay on the safe side.
Fortunately, we have a local natural pet food store here, w/ great,  knowlegable staff. This is what they recommended, & Angel has been on it ever since, & doing well!  We did an ultrasound follow up after him being on it for a couple of months, & all looked good, no crystals!  So, I would highly recommend it.

It was also cheaper than the Rx food!  (Not to meantion a great small company. I emailed them to tell them Angels story, & how well he was doing on the food, & thanked them for making a healthier version, & Dave himself emailed me back, & asked if he could use some of it on their social media site! Really nice company! )

Even though your baby didn't have cystitis, it's a formula for urinary health. Angel only likes pate' too, & also loves chicken. This is pork, but he loves it. Hope this helps!
