Good morning everyone!

Many of you know that I have taken in a mother cat and a kitten. The mother was not as feral as I thought she was. Anywho....

I have two neighbors on either side of me that feed cats, but do not have them spayed or neutered. I went to sit out side yesterday and had three male cats walk right by me. I am keeping my new additions in the house, I have not had either one fixed as of yet.

How or should, I call some one and inform them of all these cats. We have cat and release policies here in CT. But I do not want to make trouble with my neighbors.

Being that I live out in the country on a dead end road, people drive down here all the time and drop of cats. And of course they do it at night when everyone is sleeping.

I think that this is a shameful act on the persons part.

I had a very similar situation in the last neighbourhood I lived in. I started doing TNR myself. If you can get a local TNR group to help you with trapping and fixing the cats that will make things a lot easier. You could try contacting Ally Cat Allies or the ASPCA, even if they don't do TNR in your area they could put you in touch with some groups who are or with some feral friendly vets.

If these are stray or feral cats that your neighbours are feeding you don't really need to say anything to them. I told the neighbours that I was friendly with that I was going to spay and neuter the cats and all I got was "Good idea, thank you." I didn't go around and announce it to everyone though.

Do you think your neighbours would object to you spaying and neutering the cats? Feeding an unfixed colony can get pretty expensive as they multiply quickly, most feeders are happy to stick to the number of cats they have rather than increasing. Just make sure that these are strays and ferals and not someone's outdoor cat.

You could ask your neighbours, "Is this your cat or.......?"

It's great the cats are being fed rather than starving.

I would be inclined to inquire of the neighbor if they are strays or pets and discuss TNR with them. They may not have the funds or motivation, but may not mind if you do.

I myself do not have a lot of money, so I will need to know if there is a cost along with this. One of my neighbors has at least 8 cats! And some days all I can hear is cats mating! That can turn into a lot of kittens! there is a organization about two towns over, and I will call them and get more information from them. Thank you so much for your replies.

I think calling an organization for help is a great idea. Even at low cost it can add up. However, no action will surely result in many kittens soon.

Let us know how it goes.
