Hi,
Fancy Feast decided to change their formula of the Appetizers to Purely.
My cat got these as a treat with his medicine as he is battling cancer and I worry about him everyday. The vet approved if he would take it with the medicine. He loved them but will not touch the new formulas and I have no idea what to do. I just keep buying different brands but nothing is working. His regular food is weruva which he will eat but not with the medicine!
Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a product that is close to the fancy feast Appetizer Tongol Tuna ?
You are my last hope ........

Have you tried using plain canned tuna in spring water or canned sardines? They're not great to feed in large quantities, but can be an absolute godsend for getting meds into fussy (or feral) cats.

Since you mentioned that your cat eats Weruva, I thought I'd check to ask if you've tried giving him the medicine with their BFF pouch foods, which are all tuna-based (and smelly!).

Good luck!

Can you help me with finding a replacement food for the Fancy feast Appetizers?
My sick cat is giving me such a hard time and they have changed the formula.
I am looking for something similar to the Tongoll Tuna

The new Purely line does have a tongol tuna variety: https://www.fancyfeast.com/gourmet-cat-products/purely/purely-tender-tongol-tuna Will your cat not eat this new formula? The ignredients are pretty different:

Old Appetiziers: Tongol Tuna, Water, Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, Sodium Nitrite (to Maintain Color)

New Purely: tongol tuna, fish broth, skipjack tuna, sunflower seed oil, calcium lactate, tricalcium phosophate, guar gum, xanthan gum, choline chloride, taurine, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, thiamine mononitrate, magnesium sulfate, niacin, vitamin e supplement, calcium pantothenate, vitamin a supplement, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, potassium iodide, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin k activity), biotin, vitamin B-12 supplement

It looks like Fancy Feast decided to make the Appetiziers complete diets so they renamed the food.

You can still find the old Appetizers online on various web sites. The Purely foods are still new and slowly getting to the stores and such so the old Appetiziers are still  available.

It looks like PetSmart's Grreat Choice brand has their own version of the old Appetizer tongol tuna: http://www.petsmart.com/cat/soft-tr...aked-cat-food-zid36-28193/cat-36-catid-200053 The ingredients are the same: Tongol Tuna, Water, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Nitrite (to maintain color).

The tuna probably masks the smell of the medicine and cats generally love anything with stinky fish. Try BFF, one of Weruva's pouched food lines. Those are mostly seafood based. There's also Tiki Cat. Maybe Applaws as well.

You could also try the Fancy Feast broths. I use this sometimes as a topper for sometimes he gets picky and he will lick the bowl clean

I have  had the same experience with this new formula. My cat will no longer eat any of them. She will eat the "great choice" from petsmart which are like the old appetizers. Petsmarts in my area are currently out of stock b/c they are re-doing the packaging.

The BFF pouches are good for mixing meds with. Both of my cats LOVE them.

Be careful if you try ordering the old Appetizers online. I did that and what they sent was the new Purely ones, because they had run out of the old version. Luckily my cats like the new kind.
