Good morning.

I think I may have mentioned before that Mr Husband manages a hotel. It's a big hotel on the banks of Lake Sai, a popular mountain resort area. At this time of year they're really busy with parties of school and university students who come to do their summer study camp. This basically means they get to stay somewhere picturesque while they do outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing, as well as studying for up-coming exams.

One thing the hotel has to do is send each school or university a menu in advance, so that people can check they're not allergic to any of the food being served. As well as allergies to peanuts and dairy products they often get warnings of allergies to kiwi, carrots, green peppers and broccoli!

I'm pretty sure some of those are "I don't like...." rather than "I'm allergic to...."

How about you, are you allergic to anything?

As far as I know, the only allergy I have is to penicillin.

I'm not exactly allergic to anything, but I am Coeliac. I don't quite think of it as an allergy because it doesn't cause the classic swelling up/anaphalactic(sp?) shock reaction that, say, a nut allergy does.

I have hay fever. I've been tested and I'm allergic to two types of grass and one kind of tree, though I'm living in a city with different trees, and I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to themas well. Last Spring was terrible for me. Now that time of the year it's coming close, I'm kinda afraid.

Seasonal allergies here also.

In addition, apparently as I'm aging I've developed some others.  First, is mangoes.  The skin has a chemical in it pretty much identical to poison ivy.  I can't even touch one.

Second, is a specific kind of anesthesia used in dental procedures.  Had a very bad reaction.

Last, is certain antibiotics ending with "mycin" .

I keep meaning to see an allergist but who has the time?  Easier to avoid those things

no food allergies here, and no seasonal allergies either. but i'm allergic to a few medications, including sulfa. bad reaction to the sulfa, rash over every inch of my body -- which appeared literally over the course of one night. i was told i was lucky that my throat didn't close up.

I'm only allergic to compazine, an anti-nausea medicine. It's the weirdest reaction - my mouth freezes open into a scary grin like The Joker in Batman.

Very mild seasonal allergies and bananas. OK I'm not really allergic to bananas but they are my kryptonite. I HATE everything about them from the smell to the taste to the the texture. It's much easier to tell someone you are allergic to a food that you really hate if they offer you some so you don't offend them when you politely decline the banana pudding they pretty much insist you try because it's the best ever.

Hey try this banana pudding. It's my granny's recipe and it's the best

I'd love to but I'm allergic to bananas.

Oh that's too bad

Yeah I'm really upset about it. Thank you anyway.

There's my helpful hint of the day

I do the same thing but with mayonnaise. I hate it, it makes me sick.

Just some medicines (prescription and OTC), seasonal allergies, and latex.

Seasonal allergies, bees and the antibiotic minocin.  None of the reactions have been life threatening; but the minocin left me with awful hives from head to toe.  Ironically; I was on it to try to get some acne under control before my wedding!
Avocados and kiwi give me an itchy mouth and throat if I eat more than a little bit by itself.  I love both and I've never had a reaction to kiwi in a dish/dessert; so I let myself have a little.  That's probably not the wisest decision.

I had an awful reaction to something unknown in 2008.  I was really hives from head to toe.  People were staring at me in Walmart while I waited for my prescription to be filled.  I have never been so uncomfortable in my life!  My doctor didn't send me for allergy testing because he said sometimes things like that happen once but never again.  But he would send me for testing if it did happen again.  It hasn't!  I did require 2 types of steroids to get over it though.  It was not fun!

I am allergic to every OTC pain medicine known to man. My face swells up and, sometimes, my tongue and my throat swell.

Just the usual pollen/dust/fur/whatever allergies that are mostly seasonal. I get wheezy sometimes but I don't really know if that's from actual histiminic allergies or just bronchial irritation.

If I let juice from most fruits touch my skin, I'll get a rash. Especially oranges and mangoes. But even apples and peaches. So I don't know if that's an allergy either, or just some kind of irritation (acid?). So no juicy peaches all over my face and running down my arm like some people do :D. I have to cut it in pieces and take careful bites so the juice doesn't get on my cheeks. It doesn't irritate the inside of my mouth, oddly.

I mentioned the mango allergy in my response.  The skin has a chemical that is nearly (or is) the same as poison ivy. A lot of people don't know this.  When I lived in Florida, a neighbor had a huge mango tree that would drop fruit into our yard. All summer, I walked around with a terrible rash around my mouth.  Years later, after I moved back northeast, where mangoes were not as usual, I happened to buy some and the whole side of my face erupted in hives.  I put two and two together and went to see a doctor, who confirmed the allergy.  I stay away from them now other than in a mango lassi, where someone else has prepared it and it's in a glass, where I can use a straw to drink it.  The last time I attempted to eat it, it had been cubed by a store but, apparently there was a small amount of skin on some pieces I didn't notice.  Was eating it with my hands. Had an itch on my cheek. Wasn't thinking about, scratched the itch and next thing I knew my face was blowing up again.

So much for mangoes!

I get mild environmental allergies in the spring from pollen, which I never had prior to moving to SC ... but nothing else :)
