I came on here to get advice for my cat who was diagnosed with cancer (run free Alaska).

I posted yesterday a tribute to her in the rainbow bridge thread, but then I got to thinking I should make a more positive post, might make me feel better & let you all know what I am about, so here it is...

I recently closed down the rescue I had run for 10 years - it was a dog rescue (breed specific) but my heart has always been with the cats, so we rescued cats as well (or rather I did lol).

When I closed the rescue down officially back in June, the 7 foster cats I had became mine, which puts me at a total now of 11 - crazy cat lady territory I know lol.

Without further adieu I introduce you to the remaining members of our feline family (missing Alaska of course :( )...Just FYI too, all of the outside pictures were taken in our privacy fenced yard. The kitties only get to go out once a month or so, under my supervision.

I pulled TopHat out of a kill shelter in 2010, he was one of my fosters. His owner had passed away, I took him along with 4 others. I asked the vet how old he thought he was when he got neutered, the vet told me 'very old' & that is about the response I have gotten from every vet who has seen him. TopHat is a nice dude, his only issue is he likes to pee on certain things since his former owner couldn't be bothered to have him neutered, but we get by...I also think his former owner hit him as he ducks and jumps when you try to pet him. I have never seen a cat do it before. He LOVES being pet but seems scared by it :(

Roxy...Approx 10 now. Ohhhh what can be said about this kitty? She was a foster way back when, actually my first cat foster & I adopted her as I realized even tho she is super small, no one is going to want her because she likes to bite & doesn't really 'like' people. She has mellowed out in the last few years, and asks for pets on occasion now (altho she will bite if you pet her too much). She has her favorite toy that she carries around in her mouth & meows while carrying it.

Next up is Lucy(fur), she is the 2nd oldest (behind TopHat) @ 12. I was going to college & had a 'friend' who said he was moving & couldn't have any cats - he said if a place was not found, he was going to take her to the shelter. So I took her. A couple months later I found out he had gotten a polydactyl cat and was planning on breeding it *sigh*. Lucy is a super sweet kitty, her new place to sleep is literally in my face. She is the motherly figure.

Mr Kitty...Mr Kitty is about 6-7. I took him in as a kitten to adopt out but he was extremely antisocial as a kitten so he stayed. He did get adopted out 2x as an adult, both to people who I thought were good (I did home visits, vet checks, exc) & one of which was a coworker. The morons for various reasons decided to give him back to me. Mr Kitty is super loving and sweet. He still has a feral streak in him - like when he escaped out my door and I spent a month setting up a trap until he finally went in!

Miss Kitty. Miss Kitty is an approx. 3 year old feline. I busted her out of a kill shelter 2 years ago. I pulled her along with her 1 kitten as well as a mama cat (NKA Daisy) whose kittens had been adopted & she was on the chopping block. Miss Kitty's boy (Willow) got adopted into a superb home but Miss Kitty never did, she was another I 'abosorbed', which is just as well because even with the screening I did on homes, I still always felt compelled to check up on my adopted cats, so at least I know these guys are safe & will be taken care of forever :) :)   Miss Kitty is a timid, laid back gal unlike her son who is a hellion lol.

My Mr Snuggles. He is approx. 5 now. Snuggles is THE sweetest cat ever - he sleeps on the other side of my face (Lucy has the right side, Snuggles takes the left - its a wonder I don't suffocate). He has a bit of catitude but is a pretty good boy most of the time. When I moved back home, I took a job a petstore. The manager there was 'doing adoptions'. I had just lost my orange/white kitty, so when I saw him I immediately loved him. However, I still had *plenty* of cats so I resisted. That was until I realized how sick he was getting (eyes goopy, sneezing). I realized if I didn't adopt him, whoever did prob wouldn't take him to the vet and he wouldn't last very long, so I sucked it up & adopted him lol. Took him to the vet, to this day he still occasionally gets crusties in his left eye - vet said it happens when kittens are sick like that & not treated - they carry the issue their whole life.

Xena is approx. 7 yrs old now. We had a lady who was going to foster dogs for us (who flaked - not surprinsingly) during our conversation she asked if I would look at a cat who showed up at her house when I came to do the home visit. She went onto explain that this kitten had showed up on her door step, she had talked her husband into bringing him in the house, but when they did, the husband instantly kicked her out as she was 'too friendly'. I snatched her up, and was going to adopt her out, but she just belonged...Xena is a bit of a jerk sometimes to the other cats. She likes to be the center of everything and she is EXTREMELY affectionate with humans (she is one of those 'pet myself' cats).

& then there was Fang. Fang is approx. 6-7. I rescued him from a rescuer who was keeping him outside in a kennel while the million dogs she had tried to get into the kennel to kill him. He is another who was pretty feral when I got him (cant blame him) & one I absorbed when the rescue closed. He is coming around slowly but surely (I have had him since he was around 6 months). He now sleeps by my head at night and rubs up against me when I scoop the litter boxes. He has pretty much gotten over his fear of me, but he would be 'unadoptable' by anyone else's standards.

Daisy is a 3-4 year old kitty. She came to me along with Miss Kitty from a kill shelter. All of Daisy's kittens were adopted which meant her life was about to end. She is a 'brat' one could say lol. She has an attitude about the other cats. She LOVES people but is very demanding. She is also a 'darter' - I have to watch the door or she will dart out. She is another I 'absorbed' ;)

Last are Figaro & Juliet. Figaro is a 6 year old kitty. I rescued him, his sister as well as about 30 other cats from a hoarding situation. The situation was so bad that the lady had a litter of kittens in her cabinet she didn't even know was born :/ . She would not allow us in the trailer so all we can do is hope we got all of them. Sadly a lot of them did not make it as they were too far gone & the vet couldn't do anything. Fig and Juliet are siblings. Fig is the outgoing one. He hangs out with the other cats (esp top hat & fang) and is a pretty cool guy. He is another I 'absorbed' when the rescue closed..(I need to get more/better pics of him!!). He also has an eye issue that was caused by being born/living in that hoarder trailer for 6 months of his life. His right eye waters on occasion, vet said there isn't much that can be done except give antibiotics when it happens, altho they caution against that as well saying they can become immune to them, so I generally just wipe his eye.

Juliet is Fig's sister, came from the same crappy hoarder. Juliet is the shyer one. She isn't a huge fan of the other cats, she has *her* spot on the end of the bed & if another cat tries to get close the claws come out. She never was super social, and I always had the stipulation if someone did adopt one they would have to adopt the other as I just don't think she could be alone. Of course that never happened & they will be living their lives out with me :) Juliet has become better with me, she will roll over now and let me pet her stomach. I also pick her up on occasion (and she goes limp) and give her kisses on her face. She never protests, don't know if it is because she is scared or if she is just comfortable. (also need more pics of her I know! This is her on their old cat tree - they now have a $200 cat tree which is where you typically find her)

So there is my whole feline crew! I also have 4 dogs but the cats are much cooler :) :) :p

11 kitties!  What a lucky bunch of kitties, and they're a beautiful crew.

I'm sorry about Alaska.

I never was into rescue only because I just had my hands full with five children, husband in a fairly small paying wage. I bred cats Siamese and Burmese, showing and selling their kittens. Only one small story to share. I had a woman come to me to buy a Siamese kitten she came on her own and asked if she could put a $50.00 deposit and she would pay the remainder on the following Friday. Friday arrived and so did 'Mum' with the most horrible 3-yr-old with hard little boots stomp, stomp, stomping in tow. The adult cats went for cover behind the couch, under beds etc. the kittens were confused. I gave the woman back her $50.00 I had nightmare visions of those stompy boots stomping some little kitten head. No thank you..
