I Mentioned in the cat behavior section that my cat is fractious at the vet.  Yesterday was particularly bad. But I am angry that when they brought my cat back to me, his toe was bleeding... a lot. I suspect they did it. I asked them to cut his nails.  They were extremely poo poo about it. Just oh it will heal.  I was worried it wouldn't heal and also, that, the cat woudn't stop licking it.

But I took him home. I didn't see any blood or anything so, I assumed it had healed. Today, my cat was sitting / sleeping on my bed and, I noticed a small red spot on the bed. Of course, my cat will not let me look at it, but there is a slight redness on the fur.

I also noticed a small red spot on the tile floor but it is impossible to tell if this was from yesterday.  My cat definitely keeps licking that area.

Will it heal up on its own? I don't know that I can take my cat back to the vet.  He was crazy yesterday and I honestly think it could not get him back there he is so terrified and beaten up. But for sure we won't let me near the foot.

It seems like the bleeding, if any, is extremely small. One small dot in 2 hours of sleeping on my bed. But I am afraid he keeps disturbing it.  Will it heal even if he keeps at it?

You could always CALL the Vet and tell them it's still bleeding, that you don't want to bring him back in because he will freak out if you bring the carrier out, etc, and just ask them what you should do, if anything. .

I suspect there is nothing required at this point.  Usually they just put a little styptic powder on it and that stops the bleeding.  Sounds like they didn't do that.  I know my at home nail clippers (for cats) actually came with a vial of styptic powder.  Luckily I've never needed it for them, but actually used it on DH once

A good way to stop bleeding is to put flour on the toenail as well, but even if he doesn't let you touch it it will heal over time more than likely. I have accidentally gotten the quick on my dog before. It is no big deal and even when they lick at it constantly it heals with time.

I called the emergency vet, when it became clear it was still bleeding pretty badly. He has been sleeping for a few hours and the sheet had a big stain under his paw. I also wanted to add that I can't tell if it is a cut toe or if the did catch his nail on something and just rip it out.

They told me to put the stipic on it.  They also told me that I needed to put the elizabethen collar on him because the cat would lick the wound and the stipic is bad for him. Is that true?  It didn't go well. He fought me and hissed and I barely got the stipic on for a second.  I have no idea if it made it to the correct place.

I don't have any flour either.  I am leaving the collar on for the night.

I'm not sure if stipic is bad for them. That's why I've always used the flour though. I know flour isn't. If it was continuing to bleed that badly, i'm glad you called the vet. It's likely he tore a claw or something for it to bleed so much.
