My precious kitty, Willow, has had chronic loose stool since I got her (April this year). She is a Ragdoll, almost 7 months old and has been spayed.

Although she was 'pooping normally' when we got her (according to the breeder), she has always had large, smelly outputs 2-4 times a day. My vet and I worked through some usual suspects (worming, sensitive diet etc) before fecal testing started. A fecal float revealed negative results, but a PCR revealed clostridium perfringens.

He has prescribed Tylan which he warned was not pleasant for Willow, and may cause foaming etc. well after her first dose, while there has been no foaming, it's not pleasant for her and I am looking for some ways to mask it.

I know that some people use empty gel caps - I looked at the local chemist and there wasn't any. Is there any other ideas I can get here in Australia?

Thanks!

I have heard that coating the pill in butter helps, but then getting it down their throats is difficult due to the butter sticking to your fingers.  If you use a pill shooter, that might work.

Otherwise, does she have any really yummy food that she adores that she would gobble down quickly and not really chew?  If so, shove the pill into a piece of it and toss it to her, see if she'll "take the bait"
You can use anything, really...salmon flavor cream cheese, pieces of hot dog, liverworst, peanut butter, goat cheese, pill pockets, they actually make 'pastes" specifically for wrapping around pills.  They come in different flavors.  Not sure if you can buy then where you are or not though.  Member from Europe have talked about them...I've never seen them.

Thanks for this! Sadly it's not a pill though, I would have preferred it to be one! But it's in liquid form :(

Well, that's quite a different story
.  Is the dose small enough perhaps you can mix it into some stinky tuna juice or something?  Or mix it into some stinky wet cat food?  That's about all I can think of.

Otherwise, just be sure to chase it with a little water to help get the taste out, and follow it be a yummy treat.

It's 2.5ml that she has to have a day - I have grabbed some wet food while I was out, and am trying it now. She has not rejected it so I am crossing fingers!!! Thanks for your help!!
