Haha!! If my cat could say, " Off with her head!" I believe he probably would.

Very funny thread, the parts about being fickle. So glad I'm not the only one who has rejoiced at a certain cat eating expensive canned, gone out and bought like a case, then--NO NO NO--from said royalty. [emoji]128567[/emoji] You'd think it was garbage. No wait, he'd probably eat the garbage lol. The worst was when Robin was sick at one year old, the vet gave me one can of some RX brand which he scarfed up. $3.00 a can, I buy 10 more. Never touched a second drop. [emoji]128520[/emoji] Devil in disguise... [emoji]128518[/emoji][emoji]128518[/emoji]
Cats , why do we love them so much ?  Some like mine are truly a PIA when it comes to feeding .

Don't worry I never buy cases with these cats .. We have a little discount store ( sort of like Big Lots ) near our home and that is where I got all these cans .  They were only .50 cents each ..
Great deal!

I took Trotter to vet today for his yearly check-up and rabies shot. We've moved so this is a new vet. It was refreshing to hear from her mouth the best food is the one your cat will eat. Do they need corn or grains no but if that's the only thing they will eat and they don't have a problem it's okay. Canned is better because of moisture but you do what you can. She also is a fan of raw and freeze dried raw. I liked that she is open minded. This thread is funny. My 3 can be a pain feeding. One day they love it and the next they give me a look like what fresh h*ll is this? They are all rescues. Go figure.

Exactly ..  We do the best we can but ultimately it is up to the cats what they eat ..  The only kibble my cats will eat is Purina One Smartblend . Is it top of line ? Certainly not but it it the only kibble  my female can eat without coughing up a lung .  They have no problems eating it either .  I try my best to get them eat as much wet food as I can .

I guess the secret is in the water quality! My 4 cats have a dish of water on a windowsill, 2 dishes in the passageway and hall, one in the kitchen and one in the spare bedroom. The tap in the kitchen is left dripping just for them, and one in the bathroom drips anyway. But,..........they still demand water from another tap in the bathroom, or from the guestroom and, to add Insult to injury, go outside just to drink from the garden pond. If they are so fussy about water we can hardly expect them not to be choosy about food!

I have a system, if the queen doesn't like it, the big boy disposal unit gets it, if he is not crazy about it, my little TNR feral gets it.
Haha yes!!  I too have a similar system!  My 3 cats are usually on the same page as far as the food they like and the food they refuse - so if it's not a hit inside, there's always a hungry stray lurking around outside who will gobble it up, so nothing goes to waste!

I was having the hardest time getting my guys back on wet food - I even made a thread about it here a few weeks ago - and I've had fabulous success using PureBites treats and Primal raw nuggets as toppers.  Also bonito flakes sometimes.  Believe it or not, I've had better results with those 3 things than with FortiFlora.    I think I originally messed up by buying cases of the same food all the time, and then leaving kibble out overnight for them to eat.   They got tired of their wet food and decided they only wanted kibble to eat.   Now it's Orijen kibble, so it's one of the very best kibble brands (imo) but still, it's kibble  and I never wanted them to be eating 100% kibble.   Now, they only get kibble as a treat, or if I'm running real late to work in the morning and don't have time to prepare their wet food with the toppers, I'll be a bad cat mom and just set out some kibble lol but there aren't too many days like that.   They also get occasional raw eggs yolks as treats, and I give them CatSip milk to increase their fluid intake (and I have a Drinkwell fountain).   I just couldn't be happier with my cats' return to wet food - I was really getting to the end of my rope, so to anyone reading this who is having the same problem switching from kibble to wet food - don't give up!   My guys were stubborn, and it took some time and experimenting, and I make sure to now include a wide rotation of brands and flavors, but I found a way to make it work - anything is possible

Yes crumbled purebites works on food they are hesitant to eat. Buy the big dog bag online much more economical and same stuff. Now I sprinkle that and 10 tiny Merrick chicken kibble. Mine only get kibble as a topper or treat on the floor spread out while I am furminating them. My girl vomited on orijen but not tiny Merrick kibble.

I tried many different toppers including the Pure Bites to get my cats to eat wet food .. None of it worked .. The only thing that works is Purina  One Smartblend  kibble .  I use about 1/8 cup on top of the wet food and so far they have eaten every brand of wet I have given them ..  I'm happy if they're happy ..

I would stick to random cans, not cases, in case they change their minds.
I totally agree! I've learned my lesson from the stockpile of canned foods I have that my cat suddenly decided she didn't want anymore right after I stocked up to try to save some $. :(

What worked for me recently to get my cat to eat wet food again is taking a break. I stopped opening cans I had to throw away because she wouldn't eat any or just took a couple licks. After a while, I started again with the wet food but also put it into one of my ceramic food bowls and now place it in the center of the living room. I think the combinations working, although kitty scratches the rug around the bowl and also drags things over when she's done with her multiple grazing to try to cover the bowl - stuffed animal, blanket, tissue paper (gift wrap kind). :D ATM, my kitty is only eating Nutro soft loaf turkey. She loved the Nutro sliced, but they made her throw up. :( I think she's allergic to guar gum. :(

Glad your kitties are eating wet food! Never give up! The weirdos will eat one thing and then might refuse it, but might also suddenly eat something they refused before. Gotta love them! :D

Yeah , I just buy  a couple cans each of  different brands  . So far they are eating it .  I expect them to change their minds eventually and that is ok with me . That is why we always have kibble ..

@LisaHE
... I have been thinking about this comment you made .. Was this an insult to  me and  my cats ?

ir·ra·tion·al

  1. not logical or reasonable.
Oh my goodness, no, 2Cats4Me, I would never, ever, insult you or your cats! I have tremendous respect for how well you take care of your cats, your patience, and how incredibly supportive you are of other Cat Site members trying to find the best foods for their cats! You offer tons of great advice and I've learned a lot from all your comments about foods.

Sometimes it is easy to misinterpret written word ..

Oh goodness they eat a bunch of different kinds - they aren't back to eating pates yet - I have to get the shredded or chunks of meat style foods, but it's a start!

They like the Pride Rockstar Rabbit, Purina Pro Plan Naturals, Nutro minced & sliced, Nutro MaxCat chunky duck, Fancy Feast Marinated Morsels or Grilled or Chunky varieties, Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys, Purina One Pairings, Purina One Healthy Metabolism, Sheba Cuts, Natural Balance Catatouille.........I'd like to eventually get them off the Fancy Feast and Purina onto something better - but of course, the Fancy Feast and Purina One are their absolute favorites lol.   But at least they're eating almost 100% wet now, hardly any kibble.  I use the Primal raw turkey nuggets broken up as toppers - and they LOVE that.  I still use PureBites and bonito flakes for variety sometimes, but I really love that they like the Primal so much as a topper, since it is a meal in itself and not a "treat."   I'm just really happy about their progress thus far

I'll tell you something else they LOVE as a topper - the Wysong Archetype in chicken.    It's too expensive for me to feed as an actual meal for everyone - but they LOVE it as treats and as a wet food topper!!  They love those Wysong cat treats as well.   I've never tried the Epigen kibble (I read bad reviews recently about a formula change that caused cats to go off the food).  I wish that Wysong stuff wasn't so expensive, cuz everything of theirs that I've tried has been a real hit thus far!!

They are also eating the Canidae grain-free Turkey & Rabbit cans - so that in addition to the Pride, Natural Balance, and sometimes Natures Variety (with the NV it takes a couple rounds of extra toppers) so those are the good premium brand cans they are eating.  So that's pretty good.   Still the Fancy Feast and Purina One cans are the biggest faves though.  I really don't want them to get tired of the Primal and PureBites as toppers, so I was thinking about trying Stella & Chewy next and see how they like it..........

Definitely give the Stella & Chewy's a try as a topper: we add a little to our cats' Primal, mixed in and/or as a topper, and they love it. Perhaps best of all, they have lots of flavors so there's plenty to mix up! I think it's great that you use freeze-dried raw as a topper on your cats' canned foods: it's super-healthy and a great way to keep them interested!
