Hi

I'm new here but a frequent visitor.

My senior cat gets the odd about of pancreatitis. It seems to be fixed by antibiotics no anti inflammatory needed. He has very early hyperthyroidism t4 and free t4 just over limit. Vet wants. To retest in couple months.

What are peoples exp in feeding with both these? Vet says should be low fat because of pancreatitis, but he's lost weight because of hyperthyroidism. Bit confused what to do?

P's I'm in Australia.

Thanks

The weight loss can be controlled by proper dosing of medication, and it should even be controlled on a low fat diet.  As an alternative (expensive) you can do a one time radioactive treatment for the hyperthyroidism at a special clinic (talk to your vet) it requires about a 1 week isolation, but it is a 100% cure, and you would never have to deal with that problem again and could just focus on the pancreatitis.

My cat's pancreatitis was pretty bad and we controlled it with sub Q fluids, Cerenia (a neural block for nausea), pepcid, etc.

Thanks Stephen. Yes he was given Cerenia and convenia 2 week antibiotic. the vet suggested Royal Canin GI food which he likes, but on the RC site it says not to feed it for pancreatitis. Anyone had experience with that food? Its the wet one (in pouch, not can), they don't sell the dry version in Australia.

I'm not familiar with it but perhaps you should discuss that caution with your vet....

do other furry friends with hyperthyroidism have their cats urine tested often? does the blood test results normally differ from urine?

Mine has a urinalysis annually and blood levels every six months.  I thought the ua was to check her renal function in relation to the progression of hyperthyroidism?
