My cat is under a yr old and haveing her first set of kittens. She had 4 baby's in the first 1 to 1 1/2 and I think she has at least 2 more to deliver. She has a contraction and falls asleep now. It worrys me. I don't know what to do and she don't want me to leave her side at all. I have petted her with the first 4 kittens delivered. Is there anything I can do to help her or watch out for. I have never seen a cat want a person with them why give birth and letting u help her out with them. And then her breaths seems to go up and down but that may be normal. How long can she have her kittens and should I be worried she is to young to handle the birthing process. I know shell have a contration and fall asleep again. Its happened 3 times now and its been about an hr or so. Can someone please help me out with her. She wants me to rub her belly and I can feel the kitten to kittens move around. I know one to two left but she pushes andwanys me to help her in rubbing her belly as kitten moves down then shell have the contraction and the kitten will move back up. So I unsure of whats going on and what to be. I don't want anything g to happen to my baby girl. Star. Please help.

Do you have access to a vet?  At least for phoning and asking?   Or do you have someone else you can phone?  Preferably someone seasoned cat rescuer, but a dog breeder, rabbit breeder, or even a mom of many children could give help...

Normally some pauses longer or shorter arent unusual, with some contractions,  but what you write, Im not sure its a real pause, possibly she is too tired to proceed to labor...

Exactly how long was her labor with these 4 kittens??

Anyways, by all means, do rub her belly, and be there with her. If it comforts her, it helps her.

Has she eaten all the placentas?  If not, she is surely hungry, ie empty of energy...   You can give her water with some sugar source in...  Pedialyte would be ideal.  Otherwise you can make your own,  glucose sugar = dextrose, glucose syrup, white caro syrup, or white table sugar as last weakest

alternative.  + some kitchen salt...

If she is used to drink  milk, milk would be good here.  Or some plain full fat youghurt.

Ideally give milk / youghurt, AND smear glucose sugar source on her lips.

Its possible she must to a vet for a emergency cesarean - that is why its so good  if you can contact a vet.

If she doenst wants to drink, smear a little of these sugar on her lips and gum...   It will give her some energy back.

Yeah she ate 3 of them and I threw the last one away. She has only been in lay or since 1130pm. She had her first 4 and when I rub her belly I feel more. I don't know if she just needs to rest or is something going on. She has eaten some of her food and drank some water. I have had 4 kids so yes I know what to do with giving birth. But again I'm unsure of what to do with her cause she is under a yr old and I don't want anything to happen. She hasn't been in labor that long really. I mean 5 hrs seems long to me. But she is still trying to push but it just seems like she don't have the energy too anymore. And I don't know when I should say enough is enough and get her help. I mean she is my bab y cat still she is only about 6 to 7 months old. That's why im asking for some advice on what to do with her.

Yes, that is the problem.  Peacefull  pauses are quite common, its just to wait see.   But as you do describe it, its not peacefull pause, its sooner an unfruitful labor.  Exactly the position we usually try to avoid, the larming signal when we do contact our vet.

Even if it isnt very long as yet, and it doesnt seems to be desperate.  Unfruitful labors arent good.    If your vet is any decenttly experienced, he will know what follow up questions to give.

Phone and ask.    With a little luck its  perhaps just a injection with oxytocine she needs, which will reinforce her labor work, its not sure at all it is the cesarean.

I mean, if she has eaten both placentas and food, and drank water, its perhaps not her energy which is off.

Still, give her milk if she is used, or yoghurt, or even cheese.  Some extra calcium is useful sometimes.

Be ready to rush in.

Does she take care of the already born kittens?    THIS is also a sign.   Moms in trouble usually dont have the patience.   If she helps them, nurses, cares, it may be so you can wait and see - although do get knowledge with vet and where.

If she doenst take care, you have another trouble steaming up.  Be sure the kittens are warm and cozy...  Prepare to get home kmr or goat milk, etc...

It sounds like she was taking a pause in labor to rest, but weak contractions continued. Many cats want their favorite person with them during labor and delivery. It is cats in the wild who go it alone, sadly.

Has she now had her other kittens? Is everything okay?

Please let us know when you can!

To me, it sounds like a kitten is stuck. If she is having obvious contractions (so push contractions) and is even pushing but nothing comes out in 30 minutes to an hour after it started again (So after the last kitten born), she needs a vet asap. Even if she had these contractions, and they now stopped, it's basically the same. If nothing came out while having push contractions, there is most likely one stuck.

Please update us soon.

How is it going?  Did you got hold on the vet?    You saw BiancaVd analysis?

No she has not had the other kitten yet. She is eating and drinking water still. She is still taking care of her kittens. No I'm waiting for Vet to call back. I hope I'm wrong with the last kitten. Thanks everyone for the help and advise.

If she is eating drinking and taking care of her kittens, it shouldnt be too bad.  If she had a kitten stuck in the birthing canal it would look much more dramatic...   So with a little luck it may be so its just to wait for the natural birth later on, may be even days later - IF everything is OK.

But you must be very watchful, the situation is apparently very touchy...

Lets see what the vet says and suggests.

I agree with StefanZ. It may be a matter of time before the kitten is born.

Are you still feeling a kitten inside of her?

I talked to vet and she said to feel around for a bump and yes I can still feel a baby and she then told me it may not be alive and I would have to help help my cat get it out. Well after feeling a baby it moves around I feel a little beat but movememt around my hand when I leave it on her tummy. I really hope it is just one more and not more than that. So I don't know when she'll have the other one and I don't want to push her to do it if baby could he alive. So I'm going to wait and see what happens. I hope sooner than later of course. I feel like it is a waiting game now and she'll let me know like she did last night then she started pushing and 5 to 10 mins after us knowing she was ready we had her first kitten. So I hope she'll do it again. I will keep u guys up to date as much as possible. Thank You Everyone

tx for the update.

If the drama of  seemingly fruitless labor has ended, you can almost surely wait yes.   Of course, nothing is ironclad.  But taking a kitten out too early is dangerous, so here is a conflict which we dont have with humans.  With humans it would be just to take it out, fi there  is a decent surgeon and you afford.

With cats, the momma will be saved all right, but the kitten may got killed if its alive, but taken out too early...

Most often its correct to wait, also as I saw in during my years here.

That is, if dont see any problems or complications.

IF you see problems, this changes, and you need to do hastily.

i think your cat will have the kitten naturally when her body is ready. I'm glad you felt movement :).
