Hello we have a 15 week old kitten who was ran over by a car at 6 weeks old and sustained a broken pelvis. The pelvis has healed well however she began to have diarrhea. Our vet checked a fecal and determined she had round worms and dewormed her. So she was feeling better but lonely and we adopted a kitten about her size from the humane society. He was well when we got him but quickly developed an URI. We promptly took him to the vet where antibiotics were ordered for both kittens. So they have been on antibiotics for 7 days and Simba whom we recently adopted is better but Josie is still sick...with conjunctivites of which we are treating and runny nose. The kittens play frequently but also sleep alot. Occasional sneezing but they both still have diarrhea. Any recommendations?

It's very, very common for kitties to develop an URI about 7-10 days after coming into a new home or environment.  I'm glad they're getting over the URI.  Ask the doctor to do a PCR fecal test to see what you're dealing with.  It could be giardia or coccidia, or something else.

I took care of animals all my life.  I volunteer for animal groups presently.  The symptom you mentioned-conjunctivites,sneezing, and runny nose are all sign of herpe virus.  Herpe virus is a viral infection not a bacterial infection- therefore it will not respond to antibiotics.  Antibiotics will normally cause diarrhea in cats.  What I use is Lysine tablets crushed ; 1- 500 mg  a day  for 7 days added to their food. Also for conjunctivites of the eyes use Terramycin that be purchased for about $15.00 a tube- it works wonders . Wash eyes and nose with saline solution .  If nose is blocked open the passages with saline nose spray for babies and put a little bit of vicks vapo-rub under their chins where they cant lick it off. (90 % of all cats have Herpe Virus- When an animal becomes stressed its immune system is compromised.  Lysine can be purchased for about $6.00 where you buy vitamins at Walmart. Terramycin can be purchased at Allivet.com on the internet.   For more info:  Google :  Lysine for cats  and Herpe Virus in cats
