Hello everyone. My 2/yo furry child, Songi was diagnosed with Feline Asthma on Monday. He had been having issues with his breathing since Thursday of last week. They started him on a steroid pill on Monday. But he just doesn't seem to be doing so well. Hes not eating at all and barely drinks any water. He looks miserable. We are to go back to the vet in a few days for a follow up but I'm really worried. How long does it take for the meds to show any improvement? I'm new to all of this and I feel really helpless. It's so hard to see him like this. Anyone with experiences with this or advice, your input would be so appreciated. I keep offering him wet food, his dry food and plenty of fresh water. Thank you.

My Milo had a mild case of asthma and every time he had a flare, he got a secondary infection and had to go on an antibiotic. This usually cleared everything up in a few days. Hopefully someone more familiar with serious cases of asthma will come along soon with more advice. I know there are other things you can do, like use a nebulizer but I have no experience with that. Good luck with this. It is so hard to see a kitty coughing and having breathing problems!

Thank you for your response! They did put Songi on an antibiotic. Hes on day 5 of it with no real change. It is hard and frustrating. Praying it gets better!

It's worth a call to the vet to let them know what's going on. It's worrisome that Songi isn't eating and drinking. I missed that the first time I read your post. It's dangerous for cats to go more than a couple days without food. They can develop fatty liver disease which is very serious. As for the antibiotic, Milo was always doing better by the 5th day and although he didn't eat as much, he never went off his food entirely. Your Songi might need more aggressive treatment. Poor baby!
