That's what I figured! Blah!!

Finances don't "work" in my house lol. I love my husband, but if he is against something there is nothing in the world I will be able to do to convince him to pay for something. It SUCKS, but such is life. :/

I will figure it out and get these babies back on track. I have friends with cats, so I can get litter 'donated' :D

Thanks sarthur, I guess I just needed a little reassurance! :)

Do you have something you can sell quickly on eBay?

Baby clothes or outgrown toys?

This will get you enough money to buy formula and wet food, or to pay a friend back.

I don't guess I need to give you the speech about how these kittens are a responsibility. I also think it's a great learning and loving experience for your daughter. She will grow up with these cats!

Does hubby not see the value in this?

I'll spare the other speech about marriage equality ;).

See what you can do and let me know if the diarrhea improves.

Yes, that would be preaching to the choir! He is absolutely the MOST hardheaded man I have EVER met, so I decided to marry him! :D

No, he doesn't see the value in it, he grew up with animals, but his parents literally let the animals run the house. To the extent that hubby got dressed for school one day and realized after he got to school that a cat had peed on his clothes...not so good for the soul. :(

As for responsibility, yes, I know. That is why I feel so bad. I never thought he would be SOOO against helping with them, but I'll suck it up and do what I can! :) If I can't manage, then I'll take them to a no-kill or rescue group. Not going to let these babies suffer more than they already have!

The issue about switching formulas is,  preparing before the old runs out so you can do a gradual transition.

Anytime you directly switch a cat or kittens food, diarrhea happens. It's hard on their systems and takes time to adjust, so if there is just no way at all for you to go back to what you were using, then get some clear pediolyte to mix with the current formula powder when you feed them, this will prevent dehydration from diarrhea until their tummies adapt.

There are many, or even most shelters, SPCA's, humane societies that will gladly give out free food for people in need. I know we do it as well as the other orgs around us.

No shame in that!

I will try pedialyte before I get more formula.

The problem with getting free food is, we aren't a family 'in need'. I am not above anything, but I can't tell somebody I'm in need, when it's just a matter of my husband having a different opinion than my own - he just happens to handle the finances :)

I hope you can get free food and maybe some pedialyte so you can keep the kittens. I know your daughter would be heartbroken if you have to give them up.

And the longer you keep them around the more hubby is likely to accept them ;).

Give us an update when you can :).

If you go ask the shelters you don't need to prove you are worthy, just go and ask, that's all anyone does and we give it to them.

If people didn't need to come for pet food, then they likely would not.

Nobody will question why, or your income.

Trying the pediolyte, I don't mean that it will improve the diarrhea, it is to prevent dehydration, since kittens have very small bodies meaning very little reserves.

So whether you are going to go buy the prior formula or wait it out with the new one for them to adapt to it, you really should be using pediolyte instead of water to mix up their formula.

It's likely your friends with cats have some food in their pantry they their cats no longer eat.  Maybe they would let you have it?  I am always bringing food to the rescue group that my cats won't eat.

I make him out to sound like a monster, he has pretty much accepted them, but is of the opinion that if I want them I need to figure it out.

I'll update this evening!

Yes, I know what you mean regarding the pedialyte...I'm going to go get some - I have a few dollars in change and of course wet food isn't over the top - especially for kittens that take a few days to eat an entire can.

Well, basically, I looked it up on google and found a site that had pictures to compare to and Amber is a boy! I can take pictures if you would like...just in case. I am, after all, not very confident in any of this, but I have managed to raise 2 children and not be so stressed out! lol

I did have a question about pedialyte. I mixed their last serving of formula with it, can I leave pedialyte out in a dish? I mean babies can have it in a sippy cup for hours, so I would assume it would be safe.

You wouldn't be the first person to name a kitten with a girl's name only to discover it's actually a male.

I did it with my black kitten. Thought it was a girl because being tiny and all black it was hard to tell. I was correct about my other three. Then one day it became very apparent! I quickly changed the name! My early pics to relatives and friends include the female name in the captions - lol.

So you own a prince and a princess now :).
