My family just adopted a 6 week old kitten. He was found at my Grandmother's house along with his 3 other litter mates, the mother had been hit by a car. We weren't able to catch the other 3 so we took him in last week. He was sick at first but now he's quickly becoming healthier. Ever since we've had him, though, my kitten does a strange motion with his neck, as if he can't swallow properly. He also doesn't meow often, but when he does, it's small and a little scratchy sounding. He purrs loudly though whenever he's in a mischievous or happy mood ;) But my family is concerned about the swallow motion problem he is having.

It's so kind of you to rescue the kitten. I hope his siblings can be rescued as well.

Your kitten needs to see a vet as soon as possible to determine what is wrong with the kitten's throat and whether he needs medicine. He may have something stuck inside.

What are you feeding the kitten and is he eating well?

I agree, a good vet should look at this peculiar strange motion.

Re the meowing - meoving is in much a learned in thing.  And its mostly used with communication with humans.  Cats themselves dont use it much in nature.  So for me it isnt very peculiar he cant really meaw as yet, the ability and the using frequency will increase with time.
