Hello! I am a new cat owner and brand new to the forum. I just adopted Cinnamon, and I need to know her age. I was told 6 months, but that just doesn't seem possible with her size and weight (<3lbs). Estimates?
I'm no expert and just a guess here but she looks more like 3 months rather than 6 months with being only 3 lbs.Welcome to TCS and congrats at being a new cat mommy. You're in for quite a ride
Doesn't look like a 6 month kitten, no. 4 months, tops. When you take her to the vet for her wellness and getting-to-know-you checkup (hint hint) ask the vet to look at her teeth. That's really the most accurate way to age a kitten, combined with body development and weight.
She's got to be 3-4 months. I'm comparing her to what my now 2-year-old female cat looked like when she was that age, and what my 2-month-old kitten looks like now. They grow a lot between 2 and 3 months, and my kitten is considerably smaller so yours has to be older.
I agree with Kat, though. Looking at her teeth will do the trick, so to know for sure you should take her to a vet.
Typically, a kitten gains a pound every month for the first several months. Looking at her pics and her weight, I'd say no more than 4 months. If she already has her permanent canine teeth, then I'd say 5-6 mos. Having said that, I adopted a kitten who was about 6 -7 mos old and she only weighed 4 lbs.
