I have a female cat who is about 1 1/2 years old. She's been fed well since I got her on Blue canned cat food and canned tuna mixed. She loves it. But a couple of months ago she started vomiting a few hours or more after eating. I took her to the vet and the x-rays just showed she needed to take a good poop. She is wildly playful and doesn't act sick and she is fine after she vomits. I tried stopping the wet food for a couple of days but she won't take to dry food, however this did stop the vomiting. As soon as I give her some wet food she does this again. The pattern seems to be the food. She makes me feel guilty when she wants fed because she doesn't care if I'm sleeping or whatever, she will meow me to no end and keep running to the kitchen wanting food. I don't know what to feed her. The last trip to the vet was $300 plus dollars and I don't think I want to keep spending that kind of money when they don't really do much or say much about it. Can anybody with some experience tell me what to try next?

Welcome to the Cat Site!

Do you always feed your cat the same wet food or have you tried her on different flavors and/or brands? If she's eating only Blue, perhaps there's an ingredient she's sensitive to. One of our cats, for example, was vomiting from certain foods... and we realized it was potato that was bothering her. That's just an example, though I have noticed that some other Cat Site members say their cats are sensitive to potato, too. In any case, we got pretty lucky figuring out the source of the problem: I hope you're lucky, too!

Good luck!

It sounds like your kitty needs to see a vet as soon as possible, is there an emergency vet that your parents could take the cat to?

Are you saying you mix her canned cat food with human canned tuna? If so, stop the tuna and feed only canned cat food. Also try a hairball remedy. Now that my cats are on canned only and no dry, my male vomits a lot if he doesn't get Petromalt every week.

I am so sorry to hear what happened, that must have been very difficult. Your kitten was lucky to have you with her in her last moments.

I took your advise and searched for different brands of food. Wellness seems to make a  canned wet food that is for sensitive stomachs and no potato, so I went to Petco and got several cans to try. She ate some and seems to like it and so far so good. I haven't mixed the tuna either. I figure if she will eat just the canned cat food then why add tuna. I just figured since cats love fishy stuff tuna was a nice treat to show my love. I will see in a couple of days how this works out and report back.

I'm glad you found some food that she seems to like! Our cats have liked some of Wellness's CORE canned foods, especially the kitten food (which I still buy them occasionally as a treat) but watch out if you look at those because one or two of them have potato.

And yes, it really is better to avoid the tuna, except as a very occasional treat. Our vet isn't in favor of tuna (mercury) but thinks it's okay to feed salmon every now and then, which we do. If you want a healthy treat that a lot of cats seem to love, PureBites, which are just freeze-dried pieces of meat, are great. They're expensive but you don't need to give them much to make them happy. They're definitely worth the money if your cat likes them. (Ours go crazy for them.)

And please do report back! Good luck: fingers crossed that the new food helps.
