I found a momma cat and her 3 babies outside yesterday evening. The kittens are maybe a few days old, the cord where mom bit it off is still visible. My problem is both mom and all her babies are covered in fleas!! I put them in a cage and brought them in my house before I was aware of the flea issue. I have other animals and I believe the fleas are already spreading to them. How can I help the mom and kittens? Is there any treatment that is safe? I can't afford to take them to the vet at the moment but I don't want to see them suffer anymore than they already have!! Mom seems like she was a pet as she's mostly friendly but doesn't allow me to handle the kittens yet.

Is the mom handleable?

Advantage II is good, as said.    Revolution should work too.

Capstar tablets are rather harmless, and they kill instantly all adult fleas.

Combing vigorously.   Have saline water on the comb,

You can bathe them, either in saline water, or blue dawn soap water.   Be sure there is no draugh, the water warm, you dry off the kittens afterwards, and there is a heat pad afterwards - you cant risk them kittens to get chilled.    Make a ring on the neck with  the" soap white", so the fleas from the body cant fly up on head...

The fleas whom spread around:

Wash off what can be washed in at least 60Celsius...

Vacuum everythinng else.   You can put in such a flea collar in the vacuum cleaner, so it will kill the fleas in the hoover vacuum cleaner.

DONT use flea collar on the cats, most of flea collars are harmful...

Another tip may be to spread out Diatomeus earth,  DE,  make sure its of human food grade...

Im mom isnt handelable, you can still bathe the kittens...

Yes, a tube of Advantage on the back of mom's neck will help to clear her and her babies. You'll want to change the linens you have in the cage for her and wash the old ones in hot water to kill flea eggs and larva.

A can of carpet/room flea spray is very helpful, and a tube of flea medicine on the neck of each of the other animals will be necessary as well.

If you can do all of this on the same day you will really get ahead of a full-blown infestation.

Are you giving mom kitten chow and wet food? She needs it for nursing.

Thank you for rescuing this cat family!

thank you all for the advice! Does Walmart carry advantage? I've been giving her adult cat food and one can of wet a day, I'll get kitten food tomorrow! I'll treat the momma, and my two other animals with the advantage, thank goodness tomorrow is payday! I'll get the room spray or powder as well because I'm seeing more and more fleas! My 2 have been treated recently with frontline, however it doesn't seem to be helping as I'm finding fleas on both of them now too!

My Walmart here in Florida carries Advantage, but I'm not sure if they have carpet spray. Pet stores will have both. Good luck and let us know how it's going!
