I care for the feral cats in my neighborhood and back in early May I was called about a small blind kitten that was found in the street, separted from his mother. I dropped what I was doing and went right over. After I looked him over I first thought he had no eyeballs. After a few days it became apparent that he does have eyeballs but his third eyelid is stuck up on both eyes. The vet believes that due to malnutrition the fat pads behind his eyes were underdeveloped causing his eyes to sit further back. Now that he is older and has gained weight his eyeballs have moved forward but his third eyelids remain up. He gets around very well and I can ALMOST see a part of his left eye but my question is has anyone seen anything like this before? If so, do you know what was done? (sugically corrected or left alone?) I would keep him this way forever IF he was mine since it doesn't give him any real trouble but I'm trying to adopt him out and people are SO mean/put off by his eyes that I'm not sure what to do. Thanks for any ideas or experiences!

Soooo I finally found you guys again! I thought I bookmarked this page after stumbling upon it but I didn't :( took me forever but one lucky google search and here I am! Bookmarked this time :)

I had asked the vet and he thought it was caused by undeveloped fat pads behind the eyeball but that was a guess and there was no mention of how or if I should worry about "fixing" it because we don't really know what "it" is.  I actually reached out to the ophthalmology department at hte university of missouri and they referred me to a few closer options so I'm hoping to schedule an appointment and see what is going on soon. I was just wondering if anyone had dealt with a similar issue.

I've never heard of that cause, most of the time we see third eyelids when a cat is sick, often with a URI.

I know. That's all I can find online too which is why I've been reaching out everywhere and anywhere to find something similar. I even contacted a blind cat sanctuary but no luck. Thanks so much for the response! <3
