Well, this morning was the worst vet visit EVER (I say in my best Comic Book guy voice). Compared to some of your war stories it might not seem too bad, but so far this was the most nervous Snowball has been.

She had a bald spot on her hiney, and I felt some bumps that felt like bug bites, so I brought her in. She's on Frontline, but it seems to not be working as well and I suspect the fleas are building an immunity (the vet said that's rare, but possible). So, she got a Cortizone shot to reduce the irritation and give the hair a chance to grow back, and meanwhile I just got a bunch of Revolution.

When I put her in the carrier, she whined more than usual, and by the time I got to the vet I noticed a rank odor. Now, she's an outside cat, so I've never had to deal with her "waste," but man-o-man was that a bad stench. When I looked in the carrier the urine had filled in the little trench that's in the carrier. When the vet came to see her, she wouldn't come out, so we had to kind of dump her out. Out came two lumps of poop. She'd really freaked out! Anyways, we cleaned her up a bit, gave her the shot, and I brought her home. To clean her up I just filled a basin with warm water and dunker her in and massaged her fur, then dried her. I wasn't sure what kind of soap would be safe.

I just bought some waterless shampoo; it's a powder that apply to the fur and brush out. Hopefully that will help. Of course, I had to buy her some Whiskas Tempations treats (turkey flavor) to make up for being such a horrible cat daddy

Poor Snowball! He must have been sooo scared.

My cat who lived to be 18 years always pooped in her carrier when she went to the vet. It was stinky but it made it real easy for the vet to do a fecal!

I hope Snowball's skin problem clears up quickly.

Just a tip- before I take any cat to the vet, I pad the inside of the carrier with disposable diapers. Works great to deal with what I call the stress overload dump.

I can totally relate to this... you guys had me laughing so hard...

The last time Mynx went to the vet, he peed all over me just trying to get him into the carrier... he smelled so bad by the time I got to the vet I couldn't even stand to be near him. Mabel pooped on the vet the last time she went to the vet, how humiliating..

Excellent idea! I've only had one instance like this. It was when I first got Peaches and she already had the "humane society runs." Luckily I had an old towel in the bottom of the carrier. The vet was really good about it and reassured me it happens all the time. And she was very gentle with Peaches.

Oh Glen, poor Snowball! Squirt freaks out in a similar way when he has to go to the vet. The last time I even managed to get him in the carrier, the vet had to dump him, too. Only he literally put all 4 legs out and braced himself against the 4 walls. He wouldn't even let himself be dumped! Hope Snowball is on the mend soon.

Poor Snowball!!!

I have a cat named Snowball too, and his behavior at the vet's is similiar, he starts whinning as soon as I put him in the carrier, he has to be dumped out of the carrier once we arrive at the vets, and he clings to the table during the exam. Fortunately, my Snowball has never made any messes inside the carrier, (so far). LOL!!!!

Wow makes me feel as if my cats are strange!!!! They love being in the carrier! both Willow and Blade! Blade chooses to sleep in his carrier and Willow will climb in right next to him that is if I'm not in bed.

There's no place like home
I have mixed reactions in my cats. Some jump in the carriers and purr at the vets and others start fear-peeing when they see the carrier. Shep not only pooped in the carrier last time, but scratched the vet when she got there (she lost her claw in his finger).

Poor Snowball. JC also has to be dumped out of the carrier (tip: get one that can be opened from the front AND top), and then he plays skunk and sprays the vets with a really foul-smelling liquid from his anal glands. He's only failed to win the "Worst Patient of the Year" award once.

Most of my cats like the carrier and don't mind the vet. Hallie is the only one who doesn't like to travel. She is ok once she gets there though. When I take her to the vet she howls all the way in the car. Then when we get there I open the carrier top and she just sits there patiently. And she's very tolerant of the vet and techs.

Peaches loves the carrier now. Jake doesn't mind and likes to sleep in it at home! Carmella and Henrietta are also good travelers! I drove with them from South of Phoenix AZ to Salt Lake City, Utah last summer when I got them! That's when my car engine went bad and they sat on the freeway with me for 6 hours and were little angels. At any rate, they are all good at the vet now. Peaches just had that one incident right after I got her!
