Hi all

I have recently bought orijen's chicken cat food (dry) to leave out for my kittens when I'm at work. Today I have been working from home and I have noticed my male kitten Gizmo has been drinking an awful lot more than usual. It's not a particularly hot day here, and he has wet food for breakfast, dinner and supper.

I was just wondering if anyone else had seen an increase in their kittens thirst on orijen dry food?

He has drank nearly a whole bowl of water in a few hours, starting to get rather worried about him

Thanks

Cats get thirsty for lots of reasons, including diabetes and kidney issues. Both of these are usually treatable. I had a cat with kidney disease live to be 19 and he drank water like it was going out of style - as much as your cat. To rule out any disease he needs to go to a vet. I don't know about pancreatitis but would ask a vet about that.

I don't know about Origen dry food in particular but my cat was thirstier after eating Friskie's Indoor Delight dry food and he had wet food twice a day.

Keep an eye on your cat's water intake and urination and take him to the vet for tests if he continues to show anything abnormal.

Drinking nearly a whole bowl of water is worrying to me. I think I've seen it said that a kibble only cat needs 1 cup of water a day to stay hydrated. Given that you're feeding wet food too, I'd be more than a little concerned. I would want a vet check at this point, just to be sure there's nothing going on. Over-hydration can be as problematic as dehydration.
