My cat is totally indoors and is running a fever of 104.9. His nose is dry and he doesn't want to eat or drink. He is on his 2nd round of antibiotics The vet did sub-q 3 times he's been checked for FIV and Feluke.  both negative. live and kidney enzymes are both within normal range. He's not getting any better and I'm afraid I might have to put him down. He has been to the vet 3 times this week and I'm running out of money. I don't know what else to do.

He is 3 1/2 yrs old.  I've had him since he was born.  His mama died a month before her 4th birthday from cardio myopathy.

I suggest continuing supportive care.

Ask the vet for a bag of fluids, needles, and a line, and usually they'll sell you one.

My vet suggested keeping my cat cool when his temp exceeded 104, and letting him sleep. You're vet can tell you more about supportive care and may be able to provide you with nutri-cal for caloric intake. Using corn syrup on the gums may help his energy levels.

Did the vet check for any urinary or bowel issues, or check the white blood cell count? Or his teeth for any damage or infection?

Between subQ fluids, give water mixed with clear pedialyte by oral syringe into his mouth, and you can also give baby food diluted with water by syringe.

If you haven't been taking his temperature at home, you should start. If he eats on his own, give him wet food from the fridge.

This morning when I got home from work he acted fine.  Got up and ate some dry and wet food and drank some of the gravy from the wet food.  Didn't drink a lot of water tho.  But that was a major improvement over doing nothing but hiding in a corner and sleeping.

He sounds like he's getting back up to speed. Sometimes cats come down with serious upper respiratory infections, just like people can get pretty sick sometimes. If nothing comes up with blood, urine or fecal tests, I find it's usually a bad cold and the cat just needs consistent supportive care.

Don't be surprised if he goes back down hill for a bit, sometimes illness comes in waves. Keep up the supportive care and he will likely recover.

This morning he did great.  Ate on his own, was walking around, drank some water,  Then tonight his temp was back up to 105.2.  Going to call the vet again in the morning and see what she says.
