I believe my 5 year old cat is pregnant.  She is an indoor cat who accidentally escaped on 6/2/15 and 6/9/15.  Since that time, she has not shown any heat signs, her stomach has become quite large and hard.  I know that if she is pregnant, she would be about 61 days from the second time she got outside. However, at this point, I have not been able to feel or see any kitten movement and I am not quite sure about her nipples.  While her nipples are more "noticeable", they do not appear to be enlarged although I am not really sure what her non-pregnant nipples looked like.  I guess my questions is, do you always see and/or feel kitten movement and is there always a marked difference in the nipples.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thank you all.

Sometimes that isnt very clear, no.  Especielly if the litter is very small, 1-2 kittens, the tummy doesnt need to be much enlarged either.

Lets hope its a phantom pregnancy!   But prepare yourself anyways, just to be on the safe side.

Thank you.  I've been watching her all weekend.  I have her box ready, but she's spending a lot of time under my bed.  When she does come out, she's very affectionate, cleaning herself constantly  and purring all the time.   Thanks again.

You should plan to get her spayed when her kittens are weaned so this doesn't happen again. As cats age and continue heat cycles they are at risk of developing pyometra, which is an often fatal infection of the uterus.

Hi again. Today is day 64 and I'm more confused than ever. I've been watching for signs of labor. She's been more restless and more vocal than usual but tonight when I came home from work she was acting like she is in heat. She's doing a lot of rolling around and meowing. She hadn't been in heat since she got out in early June. Maybe she's not pregnant? Any ideas? Thank you.

Has she licked the fur away from her nipples? Are they more prominent? Can you post a picture of her for us?

Thanks everyone for your comments or suggestions. Still have not seen movement. She's still acting like she's in heat.

This IS very confusing.

It sounds like she's in actual heat, and her nipples do not look like those of a typical pregnant queen, but she does look fat.

I agree that it's time to see a vet. They can perform an x-ray or scan to see if she has kittens inside or whether there is any other issue going on.

And if there is no pregnancy, it's time to schedule a spay appointment so she does not develop pyometra. Something about this situation really worries me.

Is she bulging on both sides?

Can you see any discharge or if her vulva is dilated?

Has she been eating more than usual?

She is bulging on both sides. I haven't seen any discharge and honestly not sure if her vulva is dialated. She hasn't been eating more than usual. She's mostly eating the kitten chow. Since this would be her first litter could that be why her nipples don't look like a typical pregnant queen? Or do the nipples always appear the same when they're pregnant?

Sometimes the nipples and mammary glands do not develop until delivery.

Can you take a picture of her in a way that we can see her sides when she's standing? Perhaps from above?

Can you look under her tail and check the second opening down to see if it is enlarging?

No.  It could be pyometra.  One of the members had a cat with this recently and the cat looked pregnant but the nipples were normal.  She didn't know anything was wrong until the cat started leaking pus.  Please see a vet.

Hi...my female cat perdy has just had her third litter of four babies and its her very last litter. Shes a fantastic mummy and the second litter she only had march gone...again four babies which ive kept.couldnt resist.. three grey boys n one jet black girl. Her last pregnancy was pretty much the same as her other two...i didnt always feel movement of the babies but her last preg...her tummy both sides was as you said..very hard..which it wasnt with her first two pregnancies. Also each time she went into labour i never noticed any shows and although i kept a pretty good eye on her dates she surprised me each time she went into labour as i wasnt expecting her to. I love perdy dearly and hope no one thinks bad of me allowing her to have three litters in one year...i didnt intend it...she will not stay in..i tried after the first litter but she went berserk..messing all over the house and being really naughty. I also felt cruel making her stay in as shes always enjoyed her time outside. I never thought for one minute she would get pregnant again so quickly. Anyway hope you go on ok. As im such a pro now lol...if you want to know anything else regarding preg and labour dont hesitate to ask and if i can i will try to help you.
