Can I use dawn to wash the maggots off my really sick cats butt? There is raw meat showing and no fur. The maggots are up under the skin and the skin is disappearing.

You need to take your cat to the vet as soon as possible. I don't know about using dawn on him because of the raw flesh showing. That needs to be dealt with and the maggots removed. The poor baby is probably in pain. You say he is very sick - is he under the care of a vet?

I agree. Maggots can do a lot of damage and really require veterinary treatment. See your vet asap. I hope your cat gets better soon :vibes:

Being the weekend haven't had much luck getting with a vet. Waiting a return call. They say to take him an emergency vet but the are so expensive. Took a cat there once with a broken leg and it costs 2500 bucks. Hoping the vet I called will return my call soon.

What's up with vets anyway? You call one and all they care about is money! Called one and told them my situation and first thing out of their mouth is money. They don't even care if the cat is even dying. Wish I was a vet. I would never refuse an animal even if the owner didn't have MONEY.

I'm guessing I'll have to take care of it myself like they did back in the old days. The last thing I want to do is kill her. I LOVE all my kitties and I have a few. I feed feral cats and keep them warm in winter. I have heated food and water bowls for them and nice heating pads to keep them warm in the winter. I want to save them and make them happy, not kill them. I will buy cat food before I buy food for me as long as I have milk I'm good. This is a very sad day. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I want to help ALL animals not kill them. My cats are my only constant in my life.

This list is from another website so the links haven't been checked by The Cat Site.  I hope you find one that can help you.

Some vets will work with you if you have financial issues. My old vet used to take post dated checks and offered payment plans, although my new vet doesn't. There are also loans you can get just for vet care. Care Credit is one often recommended. IMOM is another, also RedRover. I've never used any of these groups so don't know anything about them, only that they are recommended on the website of the U.S. Humane Society. I don't know if these are for the U.S. only.

I hope you are able to figure out some way to get your cat to the vet. You obviously care very much for cats and do a lot for them.
