Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and this is my first post. I decided to join because after reading posts everyone seems very nice and helpful! :) I currently have 3 cats; one I rescued from the local shelter, the second I rescued as a kitten under a trailer, and the third i got from my husbands sister because she didn't want him anymore and was going to take him to the shelter. They are all loving neutered adult males. However, recently about a week and a half ago while my husband and I were walking out the door we saw a beautiful white cat next door under a tree but nobody lives there and it's up for sale. So we walked up to it an it was so friendly but it was so skinny! I turned around an behind a bush was another cat I called it over to me and it was just as friendly but in even worse condition it was bare bones. So me an my husband scooped them up an put them on our closed in porch away from our other 3 cats and gave them some water and went to the store like planned but picked them up some kitten food. Well yesterday we gave them a bath while on the porch to get the fleas off and decided to move them inside toward our kitchen. We have a little room with windows an then a few stairs that leads into the basement. So we moved them there an close the door so my 3 cats can't come into direct contact with them. They are now more comfortable. They are both females and are eating an drinking normal an using the litter box. But still the orange one is very skinny but seems to be putting on some weight slowly. However today I was petting the orange one when I picked her up I felt her nipples and they were long and kinda round at the end. But they are so skinny feeling. I think she might be pregnant! And her little tummy is kinda hard. But not sure if its bc she is finally eating again. I plan on taking them to the vet soon to get shots and spayed, etc. Because I plan on keeping them if the vet says they are good to go, because the shelters around here are full to the max and are refusing any animals you bring in. An they are just precious! They seem to be less than a year old. Maybe 6 months but it's hard to tell on the orange one bc how emancipated she is. But is this possible for her to be pregnant when she is so emancipated? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have never been around a pregnant animal before. Thanks everyone in advance! :)

You should definetly keep them and you should bring he to the vet and ask if she is pregnant. If she is then good luck with her and her kittens!

It's possible she could be pregnant.  I think someone threw them out since they are so friendly, so they could already be spayed.  A vet visit is a very good idea.  Thank you for taking them in and caring for them.

How lovely you did helped these two little sisters of ours, when they needed the help!

Its quite probable they got thrown out when they come into heat... Its quite bothering in many cases...   And well outside, she of course got pregnant, especielly as she was in full heat.

So, a vet visit for check up etc is wise and good.

The question is, if you are ready to spay her even if you get sure knowledge she is pregnant?  Its not pleasant, but its not as bad as with humans.  A human baby may survive midway in the pregnancy, if the hospital is any decent.   But a kittens wont, more than 2.3 days before planned delivery and its chances are slim, almost none.  The record I have heard about was 4 days,

But if you dont wish to spay if she is preg - I will understand you.  Most of our forumites wont.

Whichever you do, you will have full support and cooperation from here.   As you said, we are a friendly forum, its a cornerstone with our philosophy.

Tx again!

Thank you for saving the lives of these kittens. It sounds like they were deliberately left behind when someone moved. You have a heart of gold.

I doubt they are spayed, and it sounds like this kitten is either pregnant or already had a litter that did not make it. Believe it or not, cats can be pregnant when emaciated, and it is probably part of the reason she is so skinny - because the pregnancy is taking everything from her.

A vet visit soon will answer your questions, and you'll want to get the other female spayed soon.

Can you post pictures of these cats, in particular the one you think is pregnant?

Thanks so much everyone! :D I'll post some pictures of them here soon. I think they were dumped off too. If I find out the little orange one is pregnant I won't get her spayed until after she has the kittens and when it's safe to do so. I asked my husband when he got home earlier if he had noticed her nipples being that way when he gave her a flea bath the other day because I was washing the white one at that time and he said he didn't think so. So she might not have already had kittens.

these were taken a couple hours before we bathed them an brought them inside from the closed in porch. Oh an the little white one has a deformed ear. I'm guessing she was born that way. I've been thinking of names for them too. I think I'm going to name the orange one Buttercup and the white one Snowball or Dutchess :)

I'm not that schooled on being able to spot a pregnant cat that easily, so I will leave that up to the skilled lovely people of this forum! I just wanted to stop in and tell you that you are a huge blessing to these babies! I am so happy you took them in and are planning to keep them. I hate when people leave behind their pets. They are the kind of people who shouldn't have had them in the first place! I just finished fostering and finding a home for two cats that were tossed out on a dirt road a few weeks ago. I got both of them neutered and luckily, found a home for them to go to, together. But, I just wanted to come by and thank you for taking them in and showing them true love! Keep us updated on them.
