I haven't personally traveled with my cat other than to the vet's. But this article seems to cover a good deal of suggestions on it

18 hours is a long time for so young a kitten
.  When are you planning on leaving?  Will you have time to get her well acquainted with her Airline Carrier?  You absolutely need to do that, so she is comfortable inside it.  And you can put one of her favorite stuffed animals inside for company, but I don't think she will be able to have any food or water in the carrier for the duration of the flight
.  I believe if there are any stops, then the attendant for the cargo area can give them some water (thru the cage), but not 100% sure.

My sister flew her dog on an 8 hour flight, so I investigated this thoroughly awhile ago.  We did have an advisor recently move to Europe, so let me see if I can tag her to see your thread.  I don't think she has any kittens though.  @tulosai, have you got any sage advise here?

I think it depends on the cat. One time I read a lady from Ukraine who flew every year from the US to Ukraine with her cat!

Please search on the Internet, ask your vet, and find out what airlines you will be using. My friend has flown with a dog to Germany and it was a requirement for a special career for him. Also your kitty is still small, she might be flying with you in the cabin. Saw that too when I was flying.

You kitty  is so charming!

Hi!

I imagine the army can help you best with this since service members PCS frequently with pets.  I would talk to them first and see what they say and how they can help you. I am astounded it will take 18 hours to get from Alabama to Germany,  that is indeed a long time.

My cats flew cargo- they were too large to fit under the seats and I was also flying alone and you can only take one animal aboard the plane per person so that was just not an option for me and I can't speak to how it would have been to have them on the plane. To be honest I think they slept through the  whole thing and had no clue what had happened.  They were sleeping when I picked them up at the airport and seemed not at all distressed. I felt really relieved and lucky.  The worst part was actually leaving them at the first airport- they seemed stressed then and going through security with them is not fun though that procedure might be different too if you PCS.

Before going I needed to get them international microchips (they already had microchips but they didn't meet euro regulations), revaccinated even though already vaccinated, and my vet had to fill out some forms and then I had to drive to the USDA vet and get the papers 'officialized'. The papers had to be filled out and made official within 10 days of travel. Again though I don't know whether this applies to the army. You might have different or no requirements.  The vet who fills out the original papers also must be USDA accredited.

Overall it was fine and, looking back, not worth as much stress as I spent on it. The important thing is, if you do need to get the microchips/shots/papers, to keep VERY on top of the timetables for that since the windows are relatively narrow as to when they can be done. As long as you do that it will be fine.  My vet was very comforting about the whole thing too and said as long as pets are in good health and don't have any preexisting issues they are almost always okay. And the cats were genuinely fine and have adjusted well to life here.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions you think I might be able to help with, but I think talking with the army and/or your vet is probably your best step going forward :)

Good luck!!

Wow, I'm an amazed with the amount of responses to my post!
I've definitely been browsing the web and reading your responses, I really REALLY appreciate all the feedback from everyone! it's helping ease my anxiety a bit
.

I really do want her to ride in the cabin with me if possible, I just hope she doesn't cry too much if she does (she doesn't take too kindly to being "boxed up").  The move isn't set in stone yet, but I want to be prepared ahead of time so I'm not worried about it too much.

Once everything is confirmed I'll report my experiences with the whole process on here to help anyone else going through the same situation in the future
