My 16-year-old tabby has been diagnosed with non-regenerative anemia. He is hyperthyroid and has mild CRF. Testing in the spring revealed his PCT level at 19%. He was tested again last week and the PCT score is at 18% so about the same. However his HCT is down from the spring. They also discovered the type of anemia he has is non-regenerative.
Other blood work is fine. Vet suggested the next step would be an ultrasound too see what else may be going on. She said it may not find a cause and even if it did, at his age treatment may not be something I want him to go through. And, because it's the non-regenerative form, there's nothing we can really do. Treatments could either make him worse or only last for a very short period of time.
With the collective kitty experience of this forum does anyone know of anything out there -- therapy or treatment -- that might be worth pursuing?
