My kitten (around 4 months) has been "diagnosed" with FIP. Of course I was devastated by the news. I haven't done a blood test but the vet was quick to say that Angel (my kitten) has FIP and suggested for me to put him down. This shocked me because the vet didn't even run any tests on my baby and straight out said to send him away. It broke my heart. Therefore I am going to another vet tomorrow, hoping it is not FIP, and going to get him tested. Please help me. He has diarrhea, really weak, sleeps a lot, a fever, and a swollen tummy. He eats all of his food and can walk around and jump from place to place. Please help me... I really don't want to lose him. He is only a baby.

Definitely get a second opinion! The symptoms may be able to be managed and it's possible it's not FIP. I can only imagine what you are feeling, in so sorry your beautiful baby is sick! Sending healing thoughts your way.

Thank you so much. I am so worried about him. I am just hoping and praying that it is not FIP. Although I adopted him in June it feels like I've been with him forever. I really don't want to put him down.

Definitely get the second opinion!!!

All these signs could also mean your kitty has worms or other things which I am not aware of. Please do not panic..please get that second opinion.

((hugs)) gotta go, that is why this is rushed..but try not to worry until you talk to the second Vet.

Thank you, I visited the vet today and she didn't say anything about FIP (I didn't tell her because I wanted to see if she also diagnoses my kitty with it). Then after I told her, we got a blood test done and the results will come tomorrow. Really nervous and worried.

Yes, did she treat his other symtoms or check for worms, coccidia, or giardia? Any of these can cause similar symptoms. He really should be tested for these parasites as well.

Yes she checked for parasites and such. Turns out that he doesn't have any parasites. My kitten is also eating and going potty well.

If your kitten has no parasites and is eating and going potty well, then I am guessing he's had a virus of some sort. You may want to sprinkle some probiotic powder into his wet food. Canned pumpkin is good for diarrhea as well. Just mix some into his wet food.

Let us know the results of the blood test. I hope it's good news for you!

That's great news so far. What did the vet think prior to testing for FIP?

The vet thought it was an infection of some sort because of the fever and diarrhea. So she gave him some fluids and antibiotics. However, the fever wouldn't go down so she figured it would be a virus. Didn't say what it was until yesterday. And thank you I will try feeding him canned pumpkins.

Did you get an abdominal xray done? It is possible that your cat has a blockage of some sort. He may have eaten something that is lodged. The diarrhea would result from an obstruction that was blocking almost the entire iintestine, but still allowing some liquid to pass.

No we didn't do an X-ray, but the doctor did an ultrasound on his stomache and said that there was a small amount of fluids in his abdominal region.

Pumpkin is usually given for constipation. Did you get the blood work/urinalysis back?

Yes! I got them today. So apparently they took two to see if he was exposed to the corona virus. One was negative and the other one was positive. The vet told me that seeing his symptoms (his fever came down and his poo is becoming more solid) it is not positive that he has FIP. She also told me that she tried to take some fluid out from his stomach, but there wasn't any.

Which was negative and which was positive?

I am glad to hear that the fever is down and his stool is returning to normal in the meantime.

Your vet can re-test at a later date to see if the results change. It does not sound like your kitten needs to be euthanized though. Thank goodness you sought a different opinion.

That is good news that your kitty's symptoms are improving...
How are you holding up? I'm so glad you had the clarity to seek a second opinion!
Keep us posted please! ((hugs))

Sorry for not posting. I've been busy keeping him in check and what not. His health is declining rapidly. He is having a hard time eating and breathing. I've been to four vets and they said that there is nothing much they could do about FIP. They told me to consider putting him down.
