Hi all. I kust wanted to share my feral kitty story. Back in may of this year I was vacationing in Tulum,Mexico with my husband, his parents and my parents. We rented a house on the beach for 10 days and then were moving to another city for the last 4. On night 2 or 3 I hear what sounds like a young kitten crying. Me being a cat person and already have two rescues I immediateky try and locate the kittie. There are no lights and I couldn't figure out where its coming from. It stopped after a couple minutes. The next day I see a tiny grey tail dart under the house. The house is on sand with space under it. We didnt have much suitable for a cat to eat so I put out a raw egg, some almond milk and clean water right on the edge going under the house. Within a couple seconds this little grey kitten starts eating and drinking like crazy and she was so tiny! I thought there would be a momma and/or other kittens with her but she was all alone. This became my routine in the morning and evening and i would lie in the sand closer and closer to where the food was. This kitten ate canned tuna like nobodys business. My husband thought I was insane. The first day or so I was fine and then after that I couldnt sleep at night because I was worried about other animals. I made toys out of palm tree leaves and would play with her and on the 7th day I grabbed her. She let me hold her and pet her and even purred but freaked out when I took her inside. (Understandably) I started researching rescues in the area and found one that said they would do an evaluation. Day 8 I manage to catch her again with my hands and out her in a box for a 1 hr car ride. This she hated so I held her instead. We get her in and they say she has worms and give her medicine. She weighed in at 1 pound. They said they would steralize her but that they didnt have room to keep her there because they were at their limit but I could foster her out to get her adopted. This was going to be difficult as wewere leaving the next day for our next condo and they didnt want animals. Also they said not to put her back outside after the surgery and she needed antibiotics for 10 days.
Theres more to the story but to shorten up I almost gave her to a local but i was worried he wouldnt continue with the treatment so I got the lady at the new condo to agree to having her at the new rental. she recovered from surgery there got used to sleeping with me and being inside and around thefamily. I told the rescue place I wanted to keep her and they tested her for feline aids (negative yay) got all her papers in order for customs and helped me get a regulation carrier for the plane. After 6 hours in flights, going through customs etc it was a little stressful for her and I but she was such a brave girl, we made it back to US soil. Acclinating her with our one yr old cats is an entirely new story but it all worked out abd I am so happy we have her. I still wonder if she was somebodys kittie that dumped her or the only survior of a feral litter. I must have gotten her at a good tine though because she never hissed or bit even though she was scared. I estimate she was 4 weeks when I first started feeding her although the vet said she was older to get through customs. Now is 2 months later and shes 5 pounds and has filled out alot..,not skin and bones with a big belly full of tuna. I have a bunch of oucs of her but they are on my cell which broe so I will have to wait a littke to post them. Thanks for reading my long story.

How wonderful that you rescued this little girl. It was her lucky day when she hid under the house where you were staying. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of this dear girl!
