Young woman, student, called this am, Zeus is doing great. The surgery will be between 1 and 2pm. I so want to get this over with! I can't help but remember the last cat that had surgery, 3 months and 2 days ago, died. This is different but still major surgery with all the risks of major surgery/anesthesia. There are other potential complications due to the proximity to facial nerves.

Sorry, this just has me on edge, on the verge of tears constantly. I will update as soon as I know.

Prayers would help a lot!

As late as I got the final call that Zeus was awake, though groggy, I will be asking just when the surgery got started. This evening I was just happy to finally get the word that the surgery had gone very well with no problems. All I want is for Zeus to be alive and getting relief from the incessant itching.

While waiting I came across a pic of Zeus back when I first got him. He had been brought into the vet as a stray kitten with a nasty wound next to his tail. I was there when he came in and the wound was first cleaned. It was full of maggots, sounds horrible, but those yucky little things clean (eat the dead) tissue and stave off infection.

I was relieved enough that I slept well enough to oversleep!

Tiffany, student, called and left a message. Zeus is doing very well this am, he was even purring for her. At this time there is no blink reflex in his right eye and a slight pupil constriction in the left. Both eyes show some third eyelid. Some or all are most likely transitory as the trauma and swelling decreases. They are not ready to discuss discharge, which is fine with me. I need to know I will be able to provide the same amount of pain management.

All I need is for Zeus to be alive and comfortable, if he should have any deficits, no problem. I'm very experienced with special needs.

I'm just so relieved that everything has gone well, maybe now I can replace the memory of the last surgery outcome. That devastating phone call, telling me Sky was dead. I know I can't erase that memory, but there is a new one to grasp when bad thought's slip in.

Latest news, Zeus had a really good day. Still no blink in the right eye, still lubing every four hours. The very strong pain med he is on now will be stepped down at 11pm. He is also on an antibiotic. Has not eaten, could e the pain med. If he hasn't eaten by morning I will ask about syringe feeding.

He does not flinch when touched on the head, that is great! He has made friends, everyone that passes his cage just has to stop and pet him. Lots of purring!

Just read your thread! I'm so happy that Zeus is doing well. What a relief that the surgery is out of the way!

It's always nice when our pets make "friends" when they have to be away from us, Zeus has a fan club that can take extra special care of him ;)

Looking forward to more positive updates on your georgeous boy! Sending healing vibes for continued recovery. :vibes:

You both are in my prayers :hugs:

Would have been here sooner, but internet was a pain most of the day. Looks like I've got a day trip tomorrow. Zeus is coming home!

I'm so excited to be seeing him soon!

I hadn't seen any of your latest updates because I wasn't receiving email notifications like I usually do! I'm so glad he's home and doing well, but it looks like it's going to be challenging to take care of him with the cone and confinement. You are doing a great job with him! Keep us updated!

How odd the emails weren't coming. Was there an explanation, some glitch?

I should stop putting effort into putting up the kennel/cage, he's in my bedroom. In the cage he was upset and crying out quite a bit. I took him up to my room, set him down on the bed, he curled up and fell sound asleep. The meds aren't too bad. Ointment in the eye, Clavamox to keep infection away and Buprenorphine for pain. I will just show the aftercare instructions.

I have no idea why I didn't get the notifications. I did get one tonight!

I'm glad to hear that Zeus was able to settle down and is getting some sleep.

It is so stressful to go through things like this with our kitties! I am thinking of you and am hoping you can get some rest.

Zeus tolerates the eye ointment better than he takes the liquid meds! I've had the cone off for periods, as long as he behaves. He loves getting rubs and gentle scritches all over his neck, face and around his ears. I've got a couple of soft cones on order.

It sounds like you've found some good ways to make him comfortable and happy. The soft cone makes sense, and I would think that would help. It looks like he's healing well!
