Yes, I hope Kenzi's next delivery is healthy too. Don't know why she delivered those two prematurely. It's sad. Has she shown any interest in Indipoo's kittens?

I keep wondering that too and wonder if perhaps it was because of how sick she was last week. The vet had to give her injections to stop the vomiting and diarrhea it was so intense. They said it was pregnancy related.

Yes Kenzi is showing a lot of interest in the kittens. She keeps going and checking them out. I don't feel comfortable leaving her alone with them at this point.

After watching Indiopoo give birth, I can see how easy it would have been that the other kitten lost a limb. The afterbirth is kind of wrapped around limbs when the kittens are born.

The first 3 kittens came so fast I had to help her with the membranes and drying them off. I was stunned and I think Indiopoo was too.

That is fast! Good you were available to help!

One thought I've had all along about the limb is that Kenzi may have been chewing the placenta or cleaning the kitten when a painful contraction occurred, startling her and causing her to bite down. We'll never know, and the kittens were too early anyway.

I don't blame you for supervising her around the kittens, though I really hope it was just an awful accident that would not occur again.

I also agree that the vet's treatments - however necessary - could have brought on the early labor.

Well, life goes on. I'm glad she's holding onto the rest of her pregnancy still, and that Indipoo and her babies are well.

I tried to move the kittens. Indiopoo was not having any of that. In fact she moved them under the bed, as far in as possible. And it is a king sized bed.

What should I do? I haven't weighted them yet.

I'd leave her be for now. She has put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign. She just needs to rest and nurse for awhile. At some point in the next 24 hours, when she she comes out to eat or use her litter box, you can try to reach the babies and weigh them. With six, we really will need to know how they are doing, but there's no panic yet.

Where were you planning on putting them when you moved them?

I have a huge rabbit cage that I bought years ago for foster kittens. It is what I use to make a nest with for foster kittens. It is perfect for kittens and a safe place.

I will leave her be for now then and if she doesn't move them back to where she had them, I will try to reach them tomorrow when she eats. I agree they need to be weighed. I want to make sure they get plenty to eat and gain.

Should I then try moving them again tomorrow night maybe?

Let's wait and see the weights and how everyone is doing. Honestly, if they are doing well, they are safe under the bed for awhile, and Indipoo is happy. Won't hurt anything.

Yes they are safe under there for the most part. I am more concerned with how will I reach them to weigh them. I could always try scooching under and marking/weighing that way. Unsure if there is enough room to do that, but I could try. Have to make sure they are getting enough to eat, in case I have to supplement them.

Going to put a dot of permanent marker on the 5 white ones to tell them apart. Some are more cream colored than white. Would like to get pics of them as well.

The biggest one is already a happy wanderer. lol Only a few hours old and he is crawling all over exploring. I have never seen a kitten that young do that. He isn't crying or anything when he does that. He is literally crawling and smelling his way around as though he is exploring his surroundings. The youngest kittens I have fostered were two days old and never have seen one do that. Which is one reason why I initially wanted to move them now. I am concerned he could get lost or stepped on. Going to be very careful when I get in/out of bed. I got a good look at his backside when I put him back earlier and pretty sure he is a he.

Want to get a good look at them too and the pictures too. Feels kind of funny to have tiny kittens that I don't have to bottle feed every few hours.

Healthy kittens with moms tend to get active fast.

If you need to pull them out for weights and pictures, then do it. If you want to try moving them again tonight, that's fine too. In my experience first-time mama cats calm down considerably over the first 3 days, Indipoo will get used to you handling her babies. I've been through the "being careful getting out of bed to not step on a kitten" phase, and it's nerve-wracking. But you do need to know how they are doing, and with six kittens, there is almost always a runt to keep an eye on.

Can you reach them under the bed to pull them out?

Ok I was able to get the weights of the kittens. Boy is Indipoo a protective Mama! Every time someone fussed she came running out from under the bed to put them back under the bed.

The kittens were moving around on the scale, and when they do the weight changes. So I went with the lowest displayed weight.

9/1

Black and White   2.7 oz

Red ink                  3.3 oz

Green Ink              3.1 oz

Purple ink             2.9 oz

Blue Ink                 2.7 oz

Orange Ink            3.1 oz

Looks like there are 2 runts. I used a dot of sharpie marker to mark each of the white ones since I can't tell them apart very well yet.

Is there a better way to mark them? Indipoo has already washed the dots of ink off of two of them.

Should I just re-weigh them now and start over using a different method to tell them apart?

Also should I supplement the smaller ones now or wait to see?

Wait and see when you weigh them tomorrow. Even though the marker washes off you'll still see who hasn't gained, and you can re-mark tomorrow.

The weights aren't bad for 6 kittens. Weigh them in 12 hours. We really want to give them a chance with mom for a day or two.

Can you see them all latched and nursing under the bed?

Ok I will do that. Yes we can see them latched on and eating. Some eat more than others.

Oh they are great! I was just under there watching them feed. The little black and white one is on one side eating away, while the other 5 were wrestling over who gets what nipple.

Pictures :

This one is one of the two runts I think she is a girl and the only one who isn't white or cream

This is one of the cream ones. He/she seems to have curly fur so I am thinking maybe long haired??

This one is the happy wanderer. I have never seen a kitten this young explore like this one is doing. He walked off the scale lol

This one is the loud one and a peep out of him and Mom comes flying. He is more of an orange cream.

This is the easy going one. So laid back lol He/She was sleeping on my hand.

This is the last one. You can't really tell good from the pic, but this one is a silvery white color that I have never seen before on a cat.

The more cream-white ones could be point kittens (They probably are, but I don't  dare to say 100%). It would be easier to tell if you can make a picture of all of them together (maybe when drinking at mom) but I understand this is difficult due to the place she chose. Point kittens are born white and will develop colors over time. Some get some color on their ears starting at day 2, others start at like 1 week or even 2 week (red/creme points).

The very white one is probably a full white. The cats that remain white are usually very white and don't have a cream look over them.

I wonder how they grow up to be, keep us posted =^^=
