Hello all!

First time poster. I have a question for you- I take care of a friends cat, who is healthy but is FIV positive. I have also cared for a coworkers cat, who is FIV negative. At one point I took care of both of them during the same time period.  Is there any evidence that FIV can be spread on my clothing or shoes? From what I can see online it is spread from penetrating bite wounds- and from what I can see here an FIV positive cat and a FIV negative cat can live together no problem. But I just wanted to triple check.

Thank you!

I have heard the same thing that you found online, it is spread by deep bites.  The one that is easily spread on our clothes or shoes is feline distemper which is actually a parvo type virus.

I have a kitten who tested FIV+, and you are right, it's transmitted primarily through biting.  FIV can't spread on your clothes or shoes - I also volunteer at an animal shelter and take care of lots of other kitties, and none of them have ever gotten sick from my kitten.  From what the vet told me when my kitty was diagnosed with FIV, it's possible to have FIV+ and FIV- cats together, but I was advised to avoid that if possible.  Hope that helps!
