We rescued a stray last night who was clearly very hungry, tired, and thirsty. We had no trouble getting him to eat and drink, but he was very sleepy. He ate really well. Today we took him to the vet and they gave us some worm medication and eyedrops and told us to watch him. He's about 6 weeks old. Today he will play with us, but he's totally disinterested in his food. He's used his litter box a lot also. He's had about 5 pees (so he might be drinking - I can't really tell), and 4 poops! Hud poop is soft, but formed. But, he hasn't touched food for about 18 hours. I'm not sure the little guy is going to make it, but I want to do my best. Any suggestions?

Sometimes deworming medication can make cats nauseated because it upsets the GI tract when the worms die off. His stomach may also be upset if he hadn't eaten in awhile before you found him and then suddenly he was able to eat a large meal. I'd wait a little bit longer before becoming concerned and in the meantime try tempting him with some yummy food like tuna and boiled chicken. If he does go for the tuna though, don't let him have too much. If his stomach is upset and he eats a whole bunch of it it could make him vomit. Good for you for rescuing the little guy!

Thanks! He seems better today and we managed to entice him with some sardine water. This worked and we were able to mix in his deworming medication. He's still a tad lethargic, but he is most definitely more willing to play now. We've had several good play sessions and he's been eating and drinking today. Not out of the woods, but I'm feeling more encouraged.
