I've had my cat (crossbow) for 10+ years, but recently he has been violently scratching his ear. I checked on another website and realized that we haven't until recently been grooming my pets ears like we're supposed to. My mom doesn't want to waste money on the vet, but I figured I could do something in the mean time until I get paid. But I don't know what to do, my mom wraps up his head in band aid wraps, but I fear he's going to rip his ear off. My second cat (sparkles) has also been scratching her ears but she doesn't have sharp nails. Crossbow has a BIG wound on the back side of his ear, he has welts and he REALLY scratches his ear. We have to run and grab his foot to stop him but by that point he's already bleeding. Please help! I can't bear to see him continue. It's heartbreaking, I don't want it to continue to the point of him having to be put to sleep. I have until Thursday before he see a vet, anything will help. Please.

Is it just one ear or both ears? Does he also scratch his face and neck? You said both cats doing this?

How is it "wasting money" to bring a cat in distress to a vet? Ear mites treated early on are pretty cheap to treat. An infection brought on by an unattended wound is pretty expensive.

It sounds like your cats have ear mites because of he extreme scratching at this point they really do need to see a vet. From your screen name I am wondering where you are? I live in China and most people do not take their animals to the vets for anything, so I understand your Mother's financial perspective. Are there any low cost budget friendly vets in your area? or possible a vet school? vet schools often low cost treatments as the vet students need to practice and learn. For those that feel the need to shame the OP for the question and comment on the money, please remember it is a big world and there are a lot of cultural differences. Good luck with your kitties!

Not shaming anyone, just stating fact. If you can't get to a vet, is Revolution (or its active ingredient, selamectin, available anywhere for you to buy? In the U.S., you need a veterinarian prescription, but not sure if that's true everywhere.

Thank you ^_^ I'm from the US but there is one nearby ($35) but now my mom procrastinates with making the appointment. But Yeah that might be the case I thought that from the beginning and bought ear mite medicine but they don't like it, and I feel that may have been the cause for their issue now.

I've actually never had much luck with ear mite meds, unless it was from the vet , or Revolution. The oil stuff just made messes and seemed to make long term ear issues. (For me, anyway).

You can buy Revolution for about $20 a month but if you go online you can get it for less if you buy several months worth. Your vet might also match online prices, but you need to ask.

$35 is pretty cheap, really, for a vet visit.
