Radius/Ulna bowed (Between wrist and elbow). Is it normal for a kitten?

Good morning TCS!

Since the day I picked up little Ozzy, a 8 week old smoked black kitten, I've noticed something a bit off with his front 'legs': they seemed to be a bit bowed. I never had kittens before, so I just thought that was normal for kittens. When I took him to the vet, the vet took a look at him and didn't say anything about it, so I just assumed that his bowed legs were just something kittens have and then it is fixed with time.

But then I was reading some articles online and found out that that's not necessarily normal. Now I am curious whether or not this could be a problem. I will ask the vet next time I see him, but for now, I'd like to have some input just to put my heart at ease and maybe start a palliative measurement if that proves to be effective at this point. Little Ozzy is almost 13 weeks old now.

He walks fine, it just seems to me like he walks with his elbows 'rotated out' of the body. He is also very playful and he eats A LOT. He is growing very fast now, so I am happy that he's been eating a lot.

It's a bit difficult to see with pictures, so besides three pictures, I am bringing here two videos. I've set up the video to start when you can see it better, but feel free to watch the whole video if you want :)

Ozzy at 8 weeks old:

Kill. Me. Now!  He is absolutely the cutest thing!!  (You forgot the cuteness warning!)

As for the legs, I wouldn't be too concerned.  I know that bow-leggedness in kittens is often the result of poor nutrition or lack of nutrition at a young age.  I would bring it up at the next vet appointment, but not stress about it.  It could be just a grown spurt thing, too.

Thanks for posting.  I am dealing with a kitten who appears to be double-jointed in the front carpus.  He walks really low especially on one side, almost totally on the carpus and not on the paw at all.  It doesn't slow him down and it's my hope that as he grows he'll develop more strength in the ligaments and tendons in that area and be able to walk properly.

Like you, I had him into the vet to be neutered and assumed she would mention if she found it odd or troublesome, but no mention.  I do wonder if I ought to have him checked out before adopting him out, though.

He is a DLH Manx and cute as can be.

Hi Stephanie!

Haha, I know! We got him from an accident litter... The owner of the mommy kept saying "This is the weirdest cat I've ever seen! I've never seen this color before! All his littermates were adopted already but he has this weird color"  (his littermates were a tabby boy and a black girl – which has been making me so curious about what the father looked like! the mom was a spotted tabby with yellow eyes) and I was just like "THIS IS THE MOST ADORABLE KITTEN EVER" haha

He is so sweet and chatty! I really hope it is just something related to a growth spur and that it ends up fixing itself up or, if not, it doesn't cause him any pain. Thank you :D

Aw I can only imagine how cute he is!

It's always good to get it checked, right? My main concern is that they grow up to have arthritis. I know that at least in humans, bowed legs can cause a lot of pain and I definitely do not want my kitties to be in any pain. As a kitten any of these bone issues could be fixed with something to hold it in place (like braces), but if we wait until they are adults, it might need surgery and boy that looks like it hurts so much! D:

Either way, all the healing waves to your Manx baby!

I don't see anything wrong with his legs. I'm watching it on mobile, so the videos are small though...

He is so stinking cute though! I just love him! :-) About his coloring...in the pictures and video he looks like he is a blue, not black smoke. Is he a grey color in person? Blue, which is the dilute of black, is a very pretty color! ♡

Hello!

He is a sweetie pie :) My first post here in TCS was exactly about his color: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/302637/grey-kitten-seems-to-be-getting-whiter-everyday-questions

When I got him, he was clearly grey, but as he is growing up, he seems to be getting more of a silver looking color. He doesn't shed much so it is hard to see, but to me it really looks like he has a white undercoat! That's why I assumed it would be a black smoke cat :) he also has tabby markings that I think blue cats can't have! I've been researching about the genetics of coat color. His mom is a spotted tabby and his sibling were full black and tabby, but I haven't been able to figure out what kind of color would his father be! Right now, my guess is black and white.

Either way, I hope his eyes won't change anymore! He has stunning green eyes – they were a blueish green a month ago:

Blues can have tabby stripes called ghost stripes. Really, any solid can. They usually fade as they age, and sometimes disappear, but some adults keep them.
The silvery color her is getting...is it on the tips of the fur? That's pretty common with blues, especially in certain breeds, like Russian Blues. It does happen with non-breed specific cats though! Still, he'd be called a blue. :) Now, if he DOES have white undercolor, on his entire body, he would be a blue smoke, and those tabby stripes (still ghost tabby markings) are more visable due to that.

Oh, and I'd bet his eyes stay green! They may change some more, but should still be a green color once they are done with all changes.

What I referred as 'white undercoat' – I can see white depending on the angle and the way he is moving. Here, the side of his hind leg:

And here, his butt area:

But this is what it looks like when I split his hairs:

To me, this looks like a mix of white, silver and grey. Very confusing!!!
Funny enough, he has a dark patch under all his paws. They are silver on the outside and black on the bottom:

And call me crazy, but I feel like he is getting more and more silver every day

It'd be very serendipitous if he is really a blue cat. I grew up with dogs only and I had no contact with cats, aside from my aunt's very aggressive and anti-social tortoiseshell persian cat, until I read about russian blues. Their beauty got me interested in cats and it motivated me to adopt and foster cats :)

I hope so! About his color, yes the silver is on the tips!

As it is very confusing to me, I am going to show you some pictures. I hope my phone is accurate enough with the colors :)

Silver tipped hairs (very common mostly on the 'outside'  of paws and face):

I've read that blue cats have lilac paws... I personally believe that Ozzy's paws are lilac! But my husband insist that this is the same color as black people's skin and thus expected to a black cat (?):

Oh you definitely have a little blue boy there. The silver tipped hairs are most certainly a "Russian blue" trait, as are the green eyes. I know he is a domestic shorthair and not a RB, but his coloring is just the same.

Officially he would be considered a Blue Domestic Shorthair. The silver tips don't change that, he is still blue. Some blues have it, some don't. He may get more silvery too so it may be that you ARE seeing that in him . :)

About his paws...they are right for blue.
A black cat has much darker paw pads!

My kitten Atticus has those very same undertones.  They're almost silvery, with lovely lilac colored paw pads.

Your kiiten is lovely.
