My friend has been fostering a orphaned 7 week old kitten Turbo and now Im watching over him while shes gone for a vacation. He came to me last weekend and I took him to vets for deworming and got his first shots done. I fed him same food, fancy feast kitten wet food. Also she said that she fed him goat milk, so I found some frozen goat milk at a local pet store and gave it to him less than 1/4 cup a day. He seemed to be fine for first few days he got here. Then Monday afternoon he started to have a runny stool. I stopped giving him rhe milk. I took his stool sample and tests came out negative. It continued and even got worse on Wednesday, he started to vomit. I got really worried and my vet prescribed antibiotics. I started giving him metanidazole since Friday but hes still having diarrhea. He leaves trails ~5x after he eats , I feed him 3 times day... Except the one time he threw up and ongoing diarrhea, he seems perfectly fine. He plays, eats and drinks like usual. What is going on with this boy? Is it the goat milk that is still bothering him? Its been almost a week and I dont think its helping with his diarrhea.... Thank you all very much[emoji]128522[/emoji]

Try mixing canned pumpkin in with his wet food. This usually helps with diarrhea.

This is a long time to have diarrhea. I'm wondering if he's had a reaction to the worming meds or his shots, and possibly even his current antibiotic. It may have all upset his tummy.

I suggest you call the vet in the morning and discuss the situation. He may need an anti-diarrhea medicine.

You want to make sure he stays hydrated. You can also mix clear pedialyte into his food or give it to him with a syringe.

This is serious in large measure due to the kitten's age.  In house fecal testing is not reliable and no longer is, imo, the proper standard of care in the USA.  I would ask your vet to do PCR testing where they send out a sample to companies like Idexx, the sample has its DNA amplified for a definitive test result, usually in about 2 days.

Metronidazole treats some but not all parasites that can cause diarrhea.  Untreated or improperly treated parasite related diarrhea in young kittens can be fatal in some cases.

Thank you all for your reply! I will start giving him some canned pumpkin. The vet ran Ova, parasites and coccidia fecal test and everything came out negative... He is still playing and running around crazy.

As a home remedy, I give my kittens some yogurt (plain, unsweetened, no additives) as a probiotic to get some good bacteria back into their gut. One loves the taste, the other isn't so interested. I also give them a half tablet of Vet's Best hairball remedy a day, which is a natural supplement of mostly psyllium husk (fiber) and slippery elm (soothes their insides). It's technically for hairballs (or a preventive for hairballs) but can also be used for firming up their stools.

You could also try feeding the kitten some plain boiled chicken and rice. My kitten has had diarrhea for almost a full week before, and the chicken and rice usually seems to help her.   Hope the kitty feels better!

Yes, plain boiled chicken and cooked rice are also good for cats with diarrhea.

Again if it was an in-house test it isn't reliable by modern standards.  If he sent the test out for PCR testing then it is.  Which did he do?

Yes, please heed stephenq stephenq 's advice, and pursue this diarrhea issue further with your vet this week. Prolonged diarrhea is neither normal nor healthy.
