So I'm at work and all of the sudden my roommate tells me she just got off the phone with the emergency vet and that she thinks little Ophelia has a cataract forming. As the new kitten mother I am I'm now panicking! I know both of her eyes were fine this morning, do they typically develop that fast? What does this mean? Is it something she can recover from?

She is a feral-turned-tame 8 week old, she's been treated with a full course of clavamox and erythromycin opthalmological ointment.

We are waiting to be seen. I'm just freaking out because this developed in less than 24 hours

While I have no idea about what caused it and I know it's extremely difficult my advice is to calm down best you can for her sake. I hope all goes well and everything's ok.

Hallelujah vet says on first glance it's not a cataract. Waiting for her to stain her eye so she can see exactly what's going on.

Update:

Ophelia has an abrasion on her cornea, caused by either rough housing with her sister or the URI she's been recovering from. Stepping up the erythromycin to four times per day and poor girl has to wear the cone of shame.

Anyone dealt with corneal abrasions in kitties?
