Our 1 year old male cat has been friendly to a stray keen for the last couple of days. We've tried catching him but he is just to fast, until today. While letting or cat in the front door I noticed the kitten behind him so I left the security door open and to our surprise our cat led him into the house. They played and our cat passed up the wet food so the kitty could eat it. With a full belly he fell asleep but he was trying to sleep with our cat but each time he layed by him our cat got up and moved. We plan on keeping it and wondered if our male would end up adopting him.

I think your boy has already made it clear he wants to be friends :heart3: Such a sweet story. You'll want to get the kitten vet checked asap, including scanned for a microchip - just in case he's got lost and has an owner looking for him. I'd also suggest you keep in indoor only, at least until he learns that this is his new home.

Ah, its already done, no?   :)  A vet check up is wise, to get a clean bill of health.  Defleasing and deworming is suitable too.   Its too late for any quarantine - they boys has already met and played together...   But homeless cats do often, even usually carry some mites, fleas, worms...  No big deal to get rid of them.

You know of suitable dewormers, as you do have a cat allowed to go out?  Some OTC dewormers and defleasers arent  good, may even be dangerous - if unsure ask this vet - or here on this forum....   :)

Good luck!

That's so sweet. My Rainbow Bridge cat, Harvey, used to make friends with feral kittens and lead them back home to be fed. Are you able to handle the new kitten at all? If you can get him to the vet for a health check that would be great. I think if he sees his new buddy is friendly with you the kitten will soon become friendly too.

They always say cats do better in pairs. I guess your boy chose his own friend.

We Haven't been able to handle him yet. He hides under the recliner and only comes out when our cat Maxx is in the house. He's eating really well and used the litter box. We go about our daily routine and carry on as normal so he will hopefully get used to us. We haven't yet tried to catch him because we don't want him to get stressed. He looks about 2 months at the most.

My boy Marley spent a month living in a closet when he first came into the house. He followed his bolder sister in, she settled in within a few days, but Marley stayed hidden until he was sure about us.

The only way we knew for sure he was still there is because the litter box would be used and the food would disappear.

Just going about your daily routine is probably the best way to get him used to you. Does he show any interest in playing? When you play with your cat does he watch the game? That's sometimes a good way to make friends with a shy cat.

What's his name? What's your older cats name too?

He does pay with Maxx and we just got home from church and found him playing with my Chihuahua. I do talk to him from under the chair to try and coax him out, but he's not sure yet. We also put a small kitty tower behind the recliner and he had been in it a couple times. He watches us pay with Maxx from under the recliner. We haven't named him just yet, we call him baby kitty for now. We want to see what kind of personality he has first.
